InDesign Crashes When Applying Style to Shape Stroke

Hi,

I am looking for any suggestions for InDesign crashing when I try to apply a different style to a stroke.

I can draw a shape or line and change the thickness, color, cap, alignment, join style, and miter limit. When I go to change the style type from a solid stroke to any of the options available in InDesign's drop-down, the program crashes immediately. It also crashes if I try to change any of the endcaps to one of InDesign's options, like an arrow point. File size does not seem to impact it; I can start a brand new document and try to create a dashed line, and it will crash.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the InDesign app on 6/29/2023 but the issue persists. Hoping someone has suggestions. I just want to be able to make dashed lines! 😞

Working on a Windows 10 Pro PC

Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12950HX 2.30 GHz

Installed RAM: 32.0 GB

Thanks!

You need to isolate whether the problem is in one file, or on your system.

If it's a single file, there could be corruption. You can fix simple corruption by saving the file as IDML (File > Save As > InDesign CS4 or Later [IDML]). Open the IDML in InDesign to see if it's fixed.

If it's all files, then restoring InDesign references and caches is quite likely the problem. This article explains:

It happens in all files, unfortunately! I will check out yours and Mike's suggestions and report back on the fix - thank you!
