I just updated to InDesign CC 2015 and find that when I have a file open and select the file menu, InDesign Freezes. It has also been freezing when trying to launch InDesign

Setting the 'Recently used items' to 0 (zero) in the Preferences Panel solved the issue for me.

Setting the recent files to 0 seems to have solved this issue....

You are an absolute legend - setting the recent files in Preferences to '0' fixed the problem. Still have wifi turned on and InDesign is no longer freezing when I access the File menu. I couldn't be happier. Thank you so so much.

‌Just bought a new iMac and loaded up CC 2015.  Sync the 2014 settings from my old G5 and migrated. That was easy I thought. However Indesign has started to lock up when clicking the file menu option. Reading through this forum looks like most are having the same issue. One way round it is to use the quick commands via the key board. Hopefully in time Adobe will fix this bug.

Setting the recent list count to 0 should help, but you mentioned migration, and that's a recipe for all sorts of problems with ID. The program should only be installed clean.

Thank you Peter - this fixed my beach ball when selecting the FILE button!

Yip same problem here - tried re-installing and it made no difference. It must be trying to connect to the server at work while Im at home. Such a pain! Sort it out Adobe!

I deleted my preferences and Indesign stopped crashing when I try and use the file menu, but now it's having problems again... I get the beach ball and the menu flickers open then closes again. I can get it to work if I click once on it, then wait 7-10 seconds, it will open properly. All other menus work fine. WTF??!! Using latest version of Indesign CC and mac OS X.

does anyone know if this has been fixed yet? Don't want to switch recent files on again as I freelance all over the place, but would like the feature back.

I have not heard if it has been fixed, but I am now using "Default Folder X" which goes some way to helping, but not solving this.

Yep having this problem too. Seems like a pretty major bug. You're telling me that I have to delete my preferences every once and a while just to use the menu?

I am also having the same problem, using latest top spec Macbook pro and OS X. InDesign works perfectly in the office but crashes/hangs at home when you hover over or click the file menu, but works with shortcuts. I've tried all the updates and it continues to crash. This was not an issue with CC2014, really regretting updating the software. Having to constantly back save and use old laptop with old software at home.

To Adobe: Not tried the deleting of preferences and setting recent items to 0, but that's not really a solution, I could work from shortcuts if i was happy having a really convoluted way of dealing with a crap software update. Please FIX.

Add another victim to the list, same problem: Was freezing on "File" menu, then started freezing for any action, now freezes on startup. Timing could not be worse as I'm a freelancer on deadline...  FIX IT!!!

So in summary, as I have fallen victim of this, use cmd + K (InDesign Preferences) and go to File Handling, and set the Number of Recent Items to Display to 0.

This is why trashing your ID Prefs may work for a short while, as this will clear out the recent items as a part of resetting the global prefs. After that, you can re-enable the recent Items and it will be ok, or at least until the file is opened again that caused the beach ball. At which point simply repeat the process. At least this way you dont have to reset ALL your ID Prefs which is a real pain!

PLEASE ADOBE FIX THIS as I rely on that menu!!

I know InDesign tries mounting servers as soon as it launches as I get a scan alert from ClamXav.

Adobe, if I want servers mounted then I'll connect to them. This bug is causing me huge problems as I'm a freelancer that works on multiple sites.

I'm a freelancer too and this is a real PITA - I don't want to have recent files set to 0 as it is very useful, but this is the only way I can work at the moment.

CC2014 didn't do this so please fix it.

I had the exact same problem (fontexplorer conflict) , but the latest update of Adobe CC a few days ago seems to have fixed my issue
