Indesign replaced adobe font Poppins with Poppins OTF

Hello,
I work on files that another person has access to.  The file was created on their computer with adobe font Poppins.  But when i open the file, it converts all the poppins fonts to otf and if i change them to the adobe version, when they open it it does the same thing to them.  Have uninstalled and reinstalled indesign, have tried older versions. I am at my wits end as to why this is happening.

I'm not clear on what's going on here. You should both have the same font installed on your computers and use only that. To make it easy, either use a font from Adobe Fonts or copy the font to a Document fonts folder.

Both computers have the same version of Indesign and both have the Poppins font active through adobe fonts.  But when i open any files my co worker works on, it tells me i am missing poppins otf.  If i change it to the adobe version it will tell her the same thing.

Do you have another version of Poppins active? If so, get rid of it.

Nope the only version either one of us has is the adobe version.

Can you post some screenshots of the error? How are you sharing the file? Dropbox? Network server? Is there a version of Poppins specified in a style somewhere?

Its on our network server.  We use character styles when working on the files.  I was wondering if it has something to do with coping them from the server.

Is the original Poppins a Type1 font? Poppins is originally a Google font - could you have another copy installed?

January 2023 was the deadline for type 1 support. 

InDesign most likely is auto-replacing with the supported/updated version.

Adobe applications will not recognize the presence of Type 1 fonts, even if you have Type 1 fonts installed in your desktop operating system:

1. Type1 fonts will not appear in the Fonts menu.

2. There would be no way to use previously installed Type1 fonts.

3. Existing Type1 fonts will appear as “Missing fonts” in the document.

Uninstall the original Poppins Type 1 font and only use the updated OTF on both machines.

Second, fonts should be loaded locally on your machines not resourced to a network server.

What are you using for Font Management?

It's the InDesign file on the server, not the fonts, I believe.

It certainly looks like InDesign is trying to find a different version of the font. Try exporting the document to IDML and opening that. Make sure that all 18 styles of Poppins are active and search your system, and the other one for any other Poppins fonts.

That is werid.  I exported the file as an IDML and opened it.  The fonts are now correct.

No, it's not weird at all. A little document corruption can occur and this is the best way to clean it up. Do go over the entire document to make sure everything else is okay, though.

I will communicate this with my co worker.  We work on mainly menus for many hospitals, so templates are created and copied then edited with what each cutomer needs.  Since my co worker is the one that set up the templates, is it posiible something is corrupt on her end?  I never really worked with the IDML files

The number one reason for IDML is to save a file compatible with earlier versions, but it was discovered long ago that doing so also had the benefit of stripping out minor corruption. Once you open and save the file, it becomes a standard INDD file.
