Indesign same page sequential numbering for specifically placed text boxes

Hello, I was wondering if it was possible to place a number of text boxes on the same page and have them each numbered accordingly. Im working with a pinback button cut-sheet template and i need the numbers centered inside each circle. Data merging fills the page but does not place them where I need them to be. I was hoping someone out there had an answer! Thank you!

Use a paragraph style with numbering, based on a list:

Draw a first frame, apply the paragraph style and trigger the autonumbering with a space (or better a thin space). Then duplicate the frame and the following circle will be autonumbered 2, and so on.

You will have some inset adjutments to make to optically center the numbers.

The numbering order is NOT based on the frame position BUT on its creation date: the latest will have the higher number. When you use a list, threading the frames is not necessary.

Paragraph Style with Numbering should work - best would be if they are threaded - same Story.
