Issue with embedded color profiles

Hi all,

 

I'm a junior graphic designer producing print magazines. So far my Photoshop and InDesign have worked together nicely and showed similar colors for all pictures. I import most of the images from Photoshop into InDesign but I also get some of the pictures ready from customers.

 

Today, I changed the InDesign settings under Edit / Color settings / Color Management policies / RGB as I tried to polish the colors of a single image, and in the dropdown menu, I selected "Preserve embedded profiles". This changed all pictures very dark in the entire document. I tried to switch back to the original setting "Convert to working space" but it didn't have an effect.

 

I need help desperately. Can someone please help me to restore the colors back before I adjusted the settings? All help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Tommi358230691myq , Generally speaking Color Settings is an application and not a document preference-- it sets your color management preferences for new document creation, and in most cases has no affect on an existing document's color management preferences.

 

Also, the Color Management Policies would not affect color appearance, and the policies get saved with the document on creation, so again the Color Settings Policies would not change color appearance for new or existing documents.

 

Settings to check that would change color appearance are the assigned document profiles (Edit>Assign Profiles), turning Overprint Preview on or off, the document's Transparency Blend Space, and Proof Colors on or off.

I included more thorough explanation of the situation to Steve's comment. Could you have a look and advise if some solution comes to mind?

 

Meanwhile, I try to adjust the settings you mentioned that could affect the existing document colors. I'll reply in a short moment of the outcome.

I've been trained (and I train others) to use Adobe Bridge to define the colors settings for Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Acrobat.

 

Open Adobe Bridge (download from the Creative Cloud app if you haven't used it). Go to Edit > Color Settings. Choose the Settings preset appropriate for your workflow (I would use North America Prepress 2 for a print workflow). That will synchonize your settings for those four applications (see the following screen captures):

Dear Steve,

 

Thank you for providing help to my problematic situation. I have Adobe Bridge 2024 installed with the settings shown in the appendix. I also confirmed that both softwares (Adobe Photoshop 2024 and InDesign 2024) both have the custom color profile I prefer "rgb workflow newspaper". Still, even with both programs defined for similar settings and Adove Bridge settings confirmed, I get very dark images in InDesign (comparison of pictures attached in both programs).

 

I cannot understand what could've gone wrong when I momentarily toggled the setting "Preserve Embedded Profiles" and switched back to "Convert to Working Space". Is there any way for InDesign to go back into original color settings? Many elements in my newspaper draft experienced color changes when I switched the setting.

 

All help and advise is very appreciated!
