Issue with Publish Online – Document Not Found for PDF Download

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing an issue with InDesign's Publish Online feature with New links and Updating Existing links– When publishing a new document, the option to download as a PDF appears, but clicking it opens a new window with a "[Not Found]" text in the top left of the browser. When updating older published links, the same issue occurs.

This is a new (to me) issue, and I haven't changed anything in my process (that I’m aware of).

Troubleshooting Steps I've Tried:

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign
  • Checking for software updates (Mac OS)

Ive attached a video ref (speed up the uploading time) to show exactly what I mean.

I also reached out to Adobe Support via chat twice, but the chat ended with no response.

I have also read the following threads and tried to implement changes based on the 'solved result' but dont feel like I have a clear answer, or I might just not understand?

I rely on Publish Online for client work, and the PDF download option is essential since clients often forward documents internally. Sending PDFs separately isn't a viable solution.

Has anyone else encountered this? Any fixes or workarounds? I’d really appreciate any guidance!

Hey @Abhishek Rao ,
Appologies for the delayed response... again.
Here is the packaged folder: https://we.tl/t-o2l1Vw5ork

Maybe Most likey the problem is because you have some "unknown" character in the name of your file?.

And that's what is shown in the address that opens in a new window:

And what is in your ZIP:

Can you rename your file(s) and folder(s) to "english" only characters and try again?

It's NEVER a good idea to use diacritics in the names of folders / files.

I too am having problems with people not being able to download my monthly magazines... They get 'Page not found'. This is the link to the magazine - I have, of course, clicked the relevant checkbox to allow downloads - I have tried both as single pages and as spreads with no success... I can't see any issue with the file name  https://indd.adobe.com/view/6d4d4d73-4f35-45a9-8809-abaf1c906fac

Check whether the document's upload was successful. Also, check whether the file path and permissions have been set to the proper values. Re-publish with the cache cleared.

Hi, thank you for your suggestions. The document’s upload was successful but I it would be very helpful if you could explain how to check whether the file path and permissions have been set to the proper values. And how to clear the cache. Sorry!

I appreciate your help and your patience!

You can always use Google Drive, DropBox, WeTransfer or any other sharing service.

Or even FTP server on your own website - if you've one.

Or ask your client for FTP access to their server - which might be even better / more convenient for them as then you can upload your PDF directly to a folder that will be available to people inside the organisation - and your client won't have to waste time on forwarding it internally.

And it would save you a lot of time and hassle 😉

Hi Robert,

While I appreciate your response and I do understand these are fairly easy work arounds, unfortunately, my clients often forward documents internally (and externally to their clients) so sending PDFs separately (or hosting it separately) isn't a viable solution.

Thanks!

Not sure what do you mean "separately"?

You don't work in their company - so they have to download it anyway - what's the difference on which server your PDF is stored?

Hello @joshb14507728,

Thanks for sharing the details. Could you please confirm the exact version of InDesign 2025 you're using (20.0.0, 20.0.1, or 20.1) and the details of your Mac? Additionally, have you tested this issue with different browsers? Does it result in the same "Not Found" error? If possible, try testing this issue with a different network connection and let me know the result.

Is the issue specific to this particular file, or does it happen with every file? If possible, share the file and its respective Publish Online link with me for testing. If the file is confidential, you can share it via DM on the Community.

Also, when logging into Publish Online, do you see the option "Continue with Google" on the login page? It’s possible that you're signing into the wrong profile. Try signing out completely and then log back in using "Continue with Google" (if available), instead of using Email, Facebook, or Apple.

Also, try adding acrobat extension to the browser https://adobe.ly/40KDDmJ and see if that helps.

In the meantime, I am sharing a sample Publish Online link with you: https://adobe.ly/4aShnM7

Please try downloading the PDF from this link and let me know if you're able to do so. This will help determine if the issue is specific to your files or a broader problem.

Looking forward to your response.

Hi Abhishek,
Thanks for your response, to answer your questions:
* Indesign Version 20.1
* Mac Version OS 15.3 (24D60)

I have tried it with mutiple internet browsers:
* Chrome  (Version: Version 132.0.6834.162 (Official Build) (arm64))
* safari (Version 18.3 (20620.2.4.11.5))

I am sure I am in my correct account.... I use "continue with google" when I login, and all my other published links are in there when I do.  I also logged out and back in.

I have added the acrobat extension to my browser.

I tried downloading from your sample Published Link and I can download the PDF from your document. I truly think it is an issue with creating links.

It is happening with all created links - I tried on a different network and still have the same issue.
I tried to send you a test document (in your DM) but was met with this message: You have reached the limit for number of private messages that you can send for now. Please try again later.

I have never sent a Direct Message to anyone ever. I will try to send it again to you tomorrow.

I appreciate your help and your patience!
