Issues with Anchored Objects when Publishing Online

Hi Adobe Community!

I'm having an issue with publishing a document online. I've posted the document online for years and never have had issues. The document has passed hands between myself and another designer. I was having issues with InDesign due to trying to sync an Adobe Font and when I reopened it said the file might be damaged. Sharing this in case it could provide any explanation.

It's a dining map where I have anchored dots attached to text, so that when items are added or removed to the list, the dots move with it. Now when I publish online, the anchored objects move when published. See attached for what it should like versus what the publish link looks like (below). There is one dot that is not anchored to demonstrate how it stays in place versus the anchored ones. I am not sure how to fix this, so any guidance will be much appreciated.

I’ve run into similar challenges with anchored objects not aligning correctly when publishing online. While testing different layouts for a project on brewmenuus, I noticed that cleaner formatting and smaller object adjustments often helped keep things consistent across devices.

Is there a chance that when re-publishing the online file that you did not update, and you ceated a new publish online file? You can check your Publish Online dashboard and see if there are multiple files. Also, is there the possibility that the file has been uploaded to different Adobe accounts?

I'm having the same issue and have tried new files, republishing, starting from scratch, etc., but I still get the same result. Everything shifts to left. The only thing that works is running a script that releases all of the linked objects. However, in my case, I have a lot of imported icons from a Word doc, and InDesign does not recognize them as custom objects; therefore, a script release does not work. Thank you in advance for any insight or assistance.

Hello @FastHorses,

Could you share a link to a sample file along with screenshots or a screen recording of your workflow and the problem after uploading it to a file-sharing service, so I can check this with the team?

Note: When sharing the file, please make the link public and enable the option to save a Copy or Download under Link Settings.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi @Chris26018422thkp,

Just checking in to see if you're still experiencing this issue with your anchored objects shifting when publishing online.

If the problem persists, could you confirm which version of InDesign you're using? Also, did re-anchoring or testing in a new file make any difference (test the other suggestions in the thread as well)? Let me know how things are going.

Looking forward to your update.

Same here — see attached. The "Sector in the South West" group is anchored under the blue text, but shift way left when published online. Any ideas/solutions?

Oh no! I have not received any recommendations that work for me as of yet. I used to never have issues, I've published the document I've worked on for some reasons now and nothing has shifted before!

I'm on my phone so can't check your file - but if you've warning about possible corruption - try IDMLing - export as IDML, open, save with a new name - do not overwrite your original file.

Thank you! I tested that out but it does not appear to have fixed how the anchor objects move when publishing (it's published in the latest link, no change).
