Issues with hyphenation with paragraph styles when data merge is applied

Hi,

I've created a paragraph styles within a template that I'm using to complete a data merge. Each of the paragraph styles are NOT based on a previous style, and each have the hyphenation ticks marked off.

However, when I create a merged document (see screenshot two) it is displaying content with hyphenation.

I wondered if it is a problem with the data merge function?

Is someone able to help me correct this?

Thank you.

Victoria

That is not a hyphenated word, it's a compound word (https://www.grammarly.com/blog/hyphen/). That hyphen is not optional; it does not disappear if the text runs differently.

InDesign, as virtually all other word processors,  considers such hyphens an allowable breakpoint.

If you don't want to break there, replace it with a non-breaking hyphen. (Ah - I always forget what keystroke that is! It's Ctrl+Alt + hyphen on my Windows machine. If you're going to do a Find/Change, it's listed in the '@' dropdown menu under "Hyphens and Dashes".)

(For the record: this is standard behaviour and has nothing to do with the text coming from a data merge.)
