Keyboard shortcuts do not work until I click on the Text tool

When I open a document in Indesign, none of my keyboard shortcuts will work until I click on the text tool. Any ideas why that would be?

Hi,

try to reinstall InDesign (don't keep preferences).

try to clear InDesign preferences:

Trash, Replace, Reset, or Restore the application Preferences

Thank you for your help cinziamarotta. I have reset the preferences and it seems to be working so far. But it was an intermittent fault so I'm not 100% sure if it has worked.
