Messed up threading after moving text

I've moved text around in a long document (~200pp) and messed up the threading...i've tried everything I can think of to fix and read through posts here.
including

-running scripts to break and then rethread, which produce a number of error messages

-creating a new document but the text seems to paste in with its old order in its mind - which is really frustrating: whatever I do the old "ghost" text order flows in

-manually trying to remake in text editor

all so far to no avail
please help anyone. many thanks

Correct answer Robert at ID-Tasker

Got the file - it's EXACTLY as before:

Now, that we know what is the correct order - fixing it would be piece of cake - even manually.

I know @Robert at ID-Tasker fixed your file, but would you mind sending it to me? I would like to see what may have caused the initial problem. Message me and I'll give you my email.

Enormous thanks, Robert, for restoring order to this file. Your tool is a whiz. Really appreciated. Dan

Didn't see  your file, probably didn't need to run it through Rob's tool that is his own invention.

Pity didn't get to see the file.

Glad it's sorted.

Thank you all for such knowledgeable and helpful responses. I'm feeling hopeful about this for the first time in two days!

I'm moving house today so shan't have a chance to respond fully until later, and to try some of these suggestions.
Again, many thanks

How did you move the text? By moving the pages?

The only proper way to move text in a long thread is to cut it and paste it elsewhere.

Hi Dave,

Thanks

Yes, I cut and paste it....

The order shows okay on the page but it seems to have kept the old order in its bones.

This is making a problem as I try to add some text now. It reflows in a totally chaotic way.

Depends how you're setup.

Technically you can cut all the text out.

Delete those pages except the start page of the text frame.

Then reinsert those pages

(maybe delete the text frames after cutting instead of deleting pages, but that's tedious if it's 100 pages so deleting the pages worked for me in the past)

Then once your pages are inserted again, you can paste back into the starting frame.

Then rethread through the pages.

It's quite quick to do.

If you need help let us know - you can even post a sample file or contact one of us directly, I'm certainly open to being contacted by DM if privacy is an issue.
