Question

more efficient way to accomplish transform text in "Redefine Scaling as 100%" for each instance

Hello,

I'm using the latest version of Indesign (2023), and am having trouble with font size/ text frame.

The sizing is all over the place, and through previous posts on these forums, I have figured out that I need to change to 100%  through transform, 'redefine scaling as 100%'.

I assumed that clearing overrides in paragraph style would solve for this but it does not. Is there a more efficent way to do this ?

Also, is there a way to disable my font size changing each time a enlarge a text frame?

(My default settings are at 'apploy to content' when scaling, in general/preferences.)

I feel like I'm doing something wrong/ have conflicting settings or something.

Thank you,

K

Hi @KM26 ,

if you do work with Transform > "Redefine scaling as 100%" you'll always do that on geometric objects like text frames or graphic frames. It does not work on selected text.

If you do that on a selected group object, "Redefine scaling as 100%" will not be applied to the objects inside the group. Just to the group object itself.

a more clarified question-
is it possible to change size of text frame without changing font size?

I'd like to be able to grab all items on a page (of which have their own paragraph styles, layers etc,) and drag to scale- but not effect the font size.

Using the Selection (black) tool with no keys down resizes the selection (which is different than rescaling). So if the seleted items are all text frames, the frames would get resized, and the texts inside would not scale. But it would be the same for frames with images inside—the frame would resize and the image would not scale:

am having trouble with font size/ text frame.

Hi @KM26 , Also check your document’s When Scaling Preference. Adjust Scaling Percentage display’s the starting font size with the scaled font size in parenthesis

In the Transform panel (and the Control panel) when you adjust the W and H, it will not scale the text. When you use the Scale X and Scale Y fields to scale, it WILL scale the text size.

The W and H can also accommodate typing in a percentage; and the Scale X/Y can accommodate actual measurement sizes.

Of course, text should be controlled by paragraph styles that define the size and other attributes.

Also, you should have a game plan as to what size your textframes are. Having a rows/columns grid is a good way to do this.
