odd/even page sequence not working

working on a book with each chapter as separate files. front matter (cover, table of contents, etc ends on the right page.

chapter 1, which is page 1, has to start on the left page and each chapter ends on a right page. therefore, next chapter, odd page, must also start on the left page.

in the book page numbering, i have set it to continue from previous section.

each file chapter is set to automatic page numbering.

somehow, the next chapter still starts on the right page and not on the left.

i cannot get chapter 1 to start on the left page with this setting so to force it, i disabled allow spread to shuffle.

i have attached screenshot for book page numbering, chapter 1 setting and chapter 2 setting.

chapter 2 setting should start on the left and not right.

Correct answer Eugene Tyson

thank you but this workaround doesn't work either. i think the problem is page 1 has to start on the left (previous page ends with roman numeral number.)  only way for now is to disable spread from shuffling and manually move each page to the correct sequence.

There's a bit of a trick to it

Start with your normal pages and then open the N&S options

Change it to 2

Your pages panel now looks like this

Now untick the allow document pages to Shuffle

Then go back to the N&S options - and change it back to 1

Now it should look like this

I just put giant page numbers to demo it

Make sure you are noticing the lower half of the Numbering and Sections Dialog box. Look at Document Chapter Numbering. This, along with the Book Page Numbering Options should get you back on course.

There's a setting in the Book Panel that forces chapters to start on a right page.

Which is quite typical for books, chapters don't usually start on the left page.

But you can toggle the option.

Then you need to adjust the Section Numbering - typically odd pages are the right hand side.

Usually you open a book on Page 1 which is the right hand page.

Page 2 is left. And so on.

If you change the section numbering then it should work.

If you need help let us know and I can put together a demo file for you and some screenshots.
