PDF compatibility for an InDesign

I'm able to save an Illustrator file with pdf compatibility, to send the .ai file to people without Illustrator. I'd like to have the same options for Indesign, without export the indd file to an sepperate PDF.

You can do package. It stores indd, idml and pdf plus all the links of images and fonts. It not mean that another user with Acrobat can redact indd/idml but it more helpful to you for send all the things about your work to another man.

Remember, never say you can't do something in InDesign, it's always just a question of finding the right workaround to get the job done. © David Blatner

If you mean you want to send an INDD file to someone, they would need to subscribe to InDesign to open a native document. There is a feature in the InDesign pipeline for release (hopefully) later this year that will allow users to share parts of an InDesign document to others for them to edit.

That capability does not exist and frankly I would be quite opposed to such an un-neccessary "feature" which would bloat a file incredibly in many cases.

It doesen't matter, when it's optional 🙂

I'm sorry that's not possible. The Illustrator format essentially is the PDF format so it's easy to make it compatible, the InDesign format is not at all the PDF format therefore there is no option to do what you ask.
