Photos in InDesign turn Black

My photos in InDesign 2023, v 18.2.1 are turning black when I reopen documents. And I have turned off the GPU, changed HIGH QUALITY display to TYPICAL. but nothing has worked short of re-importing manually all my photos. all my photos are cmyk jpgs and tifs. help!
