Placed .Ai files lose fonts in InDesign

When I place .Ai files via File, Place in InDesign, some fonts don't transfer from Illustrator to ID. The fonts are installed, but as soon as the document is placed into InDesign, they disappear. And they're very common/generic fonts that come with everything like Century Gothic, Garamond, and Bookman Old Style. They're fine in Illustrator, but not InDesign. The fonts immediately get replaced with Myriad Pro as soon as they're placed in InDesign. My only option right now is to export the .Ai files as .jpg files to avoid the issue.

    Are you placing, or copy-and-pasting?

The only time I have had this issue is when I am dealing with docuemnts in which the previous designer pasted the ai content into InDesign, rather than placing it.

Nope, no error popped up. And the font did appear like it should have. Sorry about this confusion, I just got a new computer at work that handles the new Adobe programs - I was previously using a 20+ year-old computer with Adobe CS2 on it, so this is kind of new territory for me. Here's a screenshot:

You can change the type in AI to curves and that will eliminate any fonts from being missing. Be sure to dupe the text and turn off one layer. Because if you need to make a change on the type you will need to go back to the file. In ai >type> create outlines.

Are you saving your Illustrator file as an .ai file?

If so are you also including a PDF from the save options?

Are there any options to embed the fonts when saving the file?

It is an .ai file, and it shows that I'm saving a .pdf version as well. Here's a screenshot of what my settings show. 🙂
