Problèmes exportation PDF

Bonjour,

Merci d'avance!

Fany

Hello,

Recently I have some problems exporting my PDFs for printing, whether I do it from Indesign or Illustrator.

I work on large visuals (for example 2000x3000mm).

To prevent the files from being too heavy I scale to 1/10 and I also export to 1/10 (here 200x300mm). When I print these files in real size (from PDF to 1/10 therefore), I usually have no problems and the images are in a very good quality. But recently (I have the impression that it's since the last update) it no longer works and the images come out pixelated (no problem on vectors).

I didn't change anything in my settings, I tested with old files without modifying anything: the old PDF is ok, the new one is pixelated. My colleague has the same problem as me and we don't understand.
Is there anything changed in the export settings that we haven't seen?

Thanks a lot !

Fany

If you export new and old file using the same settings - then problem is with your source files.

What do you see when you select any pixelated image - in InDesign, on the links pallet, what values do you have for Actual & Effective PPI?

Thank you for your reply.

I don't think the problem is with the source file, the imported image is good, I have already printed large documents with it, there is no problem whith links and there is no error message. When I try to work at the real size the print is good.
In the document i'm actually working on (but i have the same problem with all the documents with images), the Active PPI is 300 and the effective PPI is 3000.

Hi @fanyb58858305,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of your issue. I’m really sorry to hear that you’re experiencing pixelation in your exported PDFs with InDesign.

In addition to what our expert has suggested, could you please provide the following information?

  1. The version of InDesign you are currently using and details about the Operating system.
  2. The specific export settings you have used for the PDF. (You can provide the screenshot)
  3. Please provide a sample InDesign file for us to test.
  4. Is the issue specific to a specific file or happening on all the InDesign files?
  5. If possible, could you share a sample file that demonstrates the pixelation issue? (An old and a new PDF of the same file showing the difference)

We appreciate your patience and will do our best to resolve this for you as quickly as possible.

Thank you,

Abhishek Rao

Thank you for your reply.

I'm working on InDesign CC 2024 (19.5) on Mac OS Ventura 13.2 (my colleague with the same problem is on Mac OS Sonoma). It's happening on all the InDesing & Illustrator files. I'm sorry I can't provide the Indesign file i'm actually working on because it's confidential. I can't provide the PDF's neither but i have attached screenshots of the new and the old file.

Your new file might have "300" - but is definitely low quality - even when looking at the physical size in kB.

Expecially when looking at it - it's a "low resolution" version.

13.2? That version of Ventura is very out of date and was riddled with bugs that affected InDesign. Update it before you do anything else.

By @BobLevine

But that's not the main problem - the new JPEG is a high resolution low quality version.

Have you, by any chance, upgraded recently to 19.5 - from some lower version? Can you try and downgrade to 19.4 or even lower?
