Question

Remapped keyboard shortcuts do not persist

I have remapped keyboard shortcut Shift+E for Link-Edit original, which shortcut is originally for View-GPU Preview.
Then I save my new shortcut set.
But after closing and opening Indesign, original shortcut is reset and my saved set doesn't work anymore until I remap and save it again.

Hi @michaljanata ,

interesting error. I had a similar one, maybe related, maybe not after updating to 20.4.1 from 20.3. on macOS.

Had keyboard shortcuts defined for several scripts and after the update they were gone:

Cmd + Arrow Up

Cmd + Arrow Down

Cmd + Shift + Arrow Up

Cmd + Shift + Arrow Down

Wheras another keyboard shortcut within the same saved custom set did survive the update.

But this was one for a specific plug-in, EasyCatalog, to untag tags in selected text or selected text frames:

Cmd + Shift + E

After I reassigned all missing keyboard shortcuts InDesign 20.4.1 was able to keep them after closing and opening the app.

FWIW: It did not help loading saved preferences from the Edit menu.

Hello,

InDesign isn't saving your shortcut because it's likely not set as the active set or there's a permissions issue. Try this:

Go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts

Click New Set, name it, and save to your Documents folder.

Reassign Shift+E, click OK, and restart InDesign.

Run as Administrator once to ensure it saves properly.

Best Regard,

again... in indesign there no possibility to save shortcuts anywhere else then its default folder
and it has nothing to do with any permission, every other custom shortcuts work well

Hi @michaljanata,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing these details. I can completely understand how frustrating it is to have your custom shortcuts reset every time.

Usually, once you create and save a custom keyboard shortcut set, it should persist across sessions. This could be due to a permissions issue or a problem with how InDesign is saving your preferences on Windows.

Could you please confirm if you're running InDesign as an administrator when creating and saving the shortcut set? Also, try saving the set to a different location first (like your desktop) and then loading it back into InDesign to see if it helps.

Additionally, make sure your Windows user account has full write permissions to the preferences folder.

I'll keep an eye out for your update so we can troubleshoot this further together!

There is no possibility to save shortcats anywhere in Indesign.
There is no problem with write permission.

Now I have checked that the problem is only with that one shortcut. I guess it is somehow related with this new GPU preview functionality.
