Question

Remove page numbering for book files when pdf ing individual files.

I am using InDesign 18.0

I have created a book. The book includes 12 individual files. While keeping the book intact, what is the easiest way to .pdf each individual file as a standalone document so that it does not have the accumuluative page numbers. For example, the last file page numbers are currently 169-183. The new stand alone .pdf page numbering would need to begin at 1.

Thank you in advance for assistance.

Make a copy of the individual INDD files - just in case - and set new starting number?

I would put the page numbers on a separate layer then hide that layer when saving PDFs from individual files. This will remove page numbers but it won’t reset them for each document.

Thank you for sharing that option.

I don't believe there is any automatic or truly simple way, although a script might be able to simplify the process.

The only process I can see is to open the component chapter (numbered 121-140 by the Book process), click on the arrow above the first page in the Pages pane, and set numbering to "Start at [1]."

You could export from there and then exit without saving to keep from disturbing the Book numbering.

That's what I ended up doing. Thx for your input.
