Test files and Permissions errors

First when I open any InDesign file from the server I get the error "Cannot open the document... You may not have permission or the document may be open already." I hit ok. Then the temporary file shows up making it look like the file is open. I double click on the file for a second time and it opens completely fine. But then a test file shows up in the folder with a bunch of code information. I cannot "save as" the file to the server, it gives me "Error code: 1." I can "save" to the server but not "save as". I can "save as" from the server to my desktop no problem. I do not have any of these issues when working on an indesign file on my desktop. This happens every time I open any InDesign file on the server. I uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign. I don't know what else to do. Anyone have this same issue? How do I fix this?

I am using InDesign 14.0.3 on Sierra 10.12.6.

I have this same issue with Indesign 20.0.1 on a Mac Pro Sonoma 14.7.1.  When the file is saved on our server I get this test file, then the same message as above. Click ok, then double click the file again and it opens. It's the text file that is causing the problem. Wish I knew how to turn that off.

Hi @lora_7405,

Thanks for reporting it. As per the description, it isn’t happening locally but only when working on files saved on the server, it’s most likely a server-side issue. I'd recommend looping in your local IT or network team to check the server setup. They might need to have a look at the permissions or file handling protocols to resolve this. Feel free to drop their findings.

Best,
Abhishek

Update: I am unable to use InCopy as part of InDesign The stories don't check in and out properly and other co-workers have issues with InCopy after I have touched a file.
