Text box formatting issue

Explorer ,
Jan 10, 2023 Jan 10, 2023

I am having a real issue with a vertical text formatting issue in InDesign that I have not seen before.

I have a text box that I am using as a caption for the photo next to it.  I try to keep the photos and captions at the same vertical height, but if I don't want to have the photo cropped too close, I keep that bigger in the vertical and vertically center the caption in relation to the photo... been doing this for years but now have this issue.

I've attached an example...when I double click the bottom center of the bounding box to remove all excess vertical, the text within the caption no longer goes to the top of the text box...I've tried clearing overrides and clearing attributes not defined by the style, but no luck...

Any thoughs from the community?

Thanks in advance.

Check:

In Object > Text Frame Options check Top Inset Spacing, Vertical Justification setting and baseline options (normally Ascent with Min: 0). Also make sure the paragraph isn't snapped to the baseline grid. If none of the above, can you share the page with us?

Hi, Barb.

Actually, checking the "use custom baseline grid" did the trick.  Thank you very much!

Hello again, Barb.  I hope you don't mind me bothering you again.

I continue to have issues and I'm going to attach a screenshot to show you what I'm dealing with.

In the attached, you see two captions side by side for comparison.  As far as I can see, these both have identical style properties but see the differences...

- the text in the left caption goes to the very top of the frame while the caption scrap to the right of it has a gap between the top of the text and the top of the frame

- also note that there is a slightly greater line spacing in the caption at the right even though the text properties for both are Arial 9 Bold Italic with 10.8 point line spacing--these are the format of my caption style.

Can you help me get my captions to all have the top of the text start at the top of the frame and have the same line spacing?

Thank you, Ma'am.

Rock
