Hi everyone,

We’ve received reports of apps crashing or becoming unresponsive after launch, particularly following the release of version 19.5. Unlike generic crashes, this issue specifically causes all Adobe apps to get stuck at the splash screen or enter a “not responding” state, preventing them from launching.

The problem has been traced to certain Beta Adobe applications related to video composition and editing. We recommend updating all Beta and released versions of video-specific Adobe applications on your system, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Media Encoder. After updating, please relaunch InDesign to see if this resolves the issue.

For other generic cases, we suggest trying the solutions listed in this help article: Fix crash issues when launching InDesign (https://adobe.ly/3Apjedh)

We appreciate your patience and are here to assist if you need further help. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you,

Abhishek Rao

Started up my iMac 24 M1 this morning to find that all Creative Cloud apps open except InDesign, InCopy, Photoshop and Illustrator – in regular daily use except InCopy – which don't get beyond the splash screen and show the spinning beachball of death. I tried the shortcut command to replace Photoshop preferences on start up and also uninstalled and reinstalled. Don't know if it's much help but the splash screens for InDesign (Beta) and InDesign 2024 freeze at 'Starting up panels...'; Illustrator at 'Initializing plug-ins...PDFFormat.aip' and Photoshop at 'Adding extension... Halide Bottlenecks'.

Sometimes using Force Quit Applications, it says the system has run out of App Memory but Dreamweaver, for example, seems to work just fine.

Could it be a font issue even though I've loaded no new fonts for ages and always use Adobe Fonts anyway.

I'm at wit's end so if anyone has a clue as to what's going on...

Same problem here as the others have. PS, AI, IN unable to start, gets stuck on start-up window. Tried to start program in all of the different ways (opening file, start menu, creative cloud app). Problem started today  wed 07.08.2024 a couple of hours ago after force restarting the computer due to a sudden Windows blue screen error while using Premier. After the problem started, updated from windows 10 to 11, reinstalled AI (28.6) and IN latest, did not help, tried IN older versions (19.5), did not help. Please help, I have deadlines to catch up!

I contacted Adobe support and solved it on Mac by renaming the "Adobe" folder contained in "Library/Application Support" to "OLD_Adobe"

Hi, here are the answers:

1. Both don't work. It stops at the loading preferences...

2. This issue happened just today. Couple of days I am having blue screen issues when launching my Windows, but that shouldn't be the issue.

3. My version is 6.3.0.207 and my oparating system is Windows 11 Pro

4. I have the correct one

Hi everyone,

We are sorry for the inconvenience you're experiencing with launching Adobe apps. Our team is aware of the issue, and it is a known issue.

As a workaround, please try removing all beta apps (especially Media Encoder Beta) and let us know if that resolves the problem.

For updates on the outage, please visit Adobe Status.

We will update this post once the issue is resolved. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Thanks,

Harshika

It worked yesterday at the end of the day and was non-functional this morning when I came in.

1. Using Version 19.5 on Windows 11, version 23H2
With all Quality Updates installed, last one being 2024-07 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5040527) on 7/26/24

Have also tried using 19.4, 18.5.3, and 18.0

2. It is not crashing, it's getting stuck on "Loading Shortcuts" and then gradually eating all the RAM in my system.

I've tried the resets on the article you shared.

3. I don't receive a crash report to submit as I have to use the task manager to terminate the program.

I have the same problem since this morning. Illutrator, indesign, Photoshop, Photoshop beta. Suddenly they crashed and when restarting they get stuck on the loading window. I have to force close it and nothing works. I uninstalled the apps, reinstalled. NOTHING!

Hi! I have the same problem, started a couple of hours ago after force restarting the computer due to a sudden Windows blue screen error. After this InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop unable to start, gets stucked on start-up window. I have done all possible updates of system and reinstalling programs. However Premier and After Effects still works. Is this some wider problem and not just mine?

Hello,
I just bought a new MacBook Pro M3 (mac OS Sonoma 14.5) and subscribed to InDesign anew.
InDesign continues to crash after two reinstall attempts, preferences deleted, system fonts turned off. I see this is an issue in the Adobe community and have tried some given advice to other members that I found and that I understand. Since I cannot downgrade to the previous Mac OS upgrades which seem to have solved some problems, is there anything new that might do the trick?

Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to suggest a solution.

Just to spare some additional time - I have done everything this comunity member has done in the following discussion ("InDesign 19.4 keeps crashing on MacOS Sonoma 14.4.1"), except for installing an older version. Similar "freezes" and crashes also with an older InDesign file which I try to edit - also on certain pages cannot fulfill command and crashes, or cannot in general fulfill a larger command like changing text size in Footnote options.

Thank you once more in advance.

Same issue is happening with me. Brand new Macbook Pro M3 with Sonoma 14.5 installed, and latest InDesign 19.5. Crashes within 30 seconds of launching the app every time. As with @Eva76 , I tried all recommendations apart from downgrading my MacOS. What is happening? This app is completely unusable at the moment.

I just updated Adobe InDesign to the latest version 19.5. Running on Windows 11 Pro, Dell Aurora Intel I9 processor, nVidia RTX 3090.

When i close the app, i get an error message in the Windows logs stating that InDesign stopped working

Try resetting your InDesign preferences. After an update it is always a good idea to do this as using older preferences with a newer version often causes problems. This process will reset the program to its defaults which, hopefully, will improve performance.

To do so on a PC:

You can try the quick way of resetting on a PC which is to hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching InDesign and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset. There have been some recent reports that the window asking if you want to reset is not popping up but that the prefs are being reset anyway. If this works great but if it doesn’t you may have to manually delete them.

To do so: On Windows 7 and above the preference files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings. Then delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>. Make sure that InDesign is closed when you do this. When you relaunch the program it will create new preference files and the program will be at its default settings.

The advantage of manually deleting preference files is that after you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, you can create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

Thank you very much for your information. I had already tried resetting preferences during startup. At your suggestion I tried deleting the folder in the user file. Still the same problem, 19.5 generates a "stopped working" error in the windows event logs only about a second after shutdown. I re-installed the previous version and it does not generate this error. I am hoping someone from Adobe is monitoring this thread as I believe this is a bug in the latest update.

Once again, thank you very much for your help.
