Unable to unlock master page item in InDesign on Windows

Windows platform: I can't unlock a master page item using the selection tool and Ctrl + Shift. The grouped object is on an unlocked layer and not covered up by anything on a layer above, such as a text frame. I've tried selecting on the object edge and on its centre. I normally use a Mac but am helping my partner who uses a Windows laptop which I struggle with.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay in response. I am hopeful that the issue is resolved by now. If not, could you please press CRTL+ Shift+ ALT+ L and see if that works. This will unlock all the masterpage items.

If that doesn't work either, please try resetting InDesign preferences by following these steps:

  • Close all Adobe applications.
  • Go to Locations :
  • C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe
  • C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Adobe.
  • Rename InDesign folders to InDesign.old
  • Launch InDesign from CC.

Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. This way all your old settings will be saved in .old folders and InDesign will recreate new folders with default settings.

Let us know if that helps or if you need any further assistance.

Regards,

Srishti

Thanks for kindly getting back. It's my wife's work Windows laptop and, though she found a work around, the inability to unlock the master page item remains a puzzle. If I had more time and the inclination to grapple with Windows InDesign then I'd try to resolve it.
