Add pages automatically

Hello, I have an empty document with four pages, the last two pages have each a text frame. I have connected the frames so the text should flow from the first to the second. In setting, I have "add pages at the end of the article". Then I paste a long text from a word processor. No new pages appear. I undo the paste and try instead File- Place. No new pages. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Following David's directions, you may not have frame on the Master Pages. Or if you turn off that limitation, then you must follow this limitation: "You can make Smart Text Reflow work on any text frame by turning off the limitation checkbox in the Preferences dialog box. However, in that case, you still won’t get it on every frame… it will only work for stories that are in frames that are already threaded across two or more pages! In other words, it won’t apply to any frame or story that is only on a single page."
