How to prevent Adobe software stealing focus in Windows 10? - LOCKED

Every Adobe app (InDesign, Photoshop...) is stealing the focus from other application a several times. This behaviour is annoying as well as useless. How to stop this?

Same to me, since years! All of the Adobe CC Apps stealing focus multiple times when they are loading! on every computer i use (Win7, Win 8.1).

I switch to the previous app while loading -> Photoshop stealing focus.

I switch to the previous app while loading -> Photoshop stealing focus.

I switch to the previous app while loading -> Photoshop stealing focus.

I switch to the previous app while loading -> Photoshop stealing focus.

I switch to the previous app while loading -> Photoshop stealing focus.

Ohh, Photoshop has finished loading, now i can bring PS to the background and it stays there.

I asume it is because of adobe thinks they are soooooo IMPOOORTANT!

This annoys me that much! My blood pressure raises every time i start an adobe app. No other app from other developers is acting like that. Not Maya, not Unity, not Nuke, not Visual Studio.

They open in the BACKGROUND, when i switch to another app while they are loading, exactly how it is designated by the OS!

I start them, they get focus and showing the loading picture, but then, when i switch to another app while loading, they STAY in the background!

And no, this is not a small issue for me as a user. This is annoying as hell! For me, this really diminishs the image of Adobe.

Adding my 3 cents (adjusted for inflation).

Windows 7 (I hate Win10), same issue with DreamWeaver, PhotoShop, and Lightroom.

Same behavior - not only takes forever to load, but keeps popping up multiple times (DW once, LR 3 times).

There's no error messages or decisions to be made - it's just Adobe being Important As F**k and showing the splash screen. I DON'T CARE WHO WORKED ON THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

    Minimizing it doesn't work.

And yeah, since one of the recent updates, LR has become an absolute memory & CPU hog, so no, I can't afford to keep it open in the background "just in case", it has a noticeable impact on overall performance. (This didn't happen with previous versions... thanks Adobe!).

A conversation along similar lines (photoshop is mentioned numerous times!) is ongoing over at MS Technet, kind of suggests the problem may well be with the operating system!

Windows 10 : Stop any application from stealing focus ever. Is it possible?

The simple logical problem with this is, why is Adobe Photoshop the single, lone application doing it?

This is on Adobe and they'll either fix it, or throw it onto the ever-increasing "ignore" pile.

And why do you keep asking about it in the InDesign forum where no Photoshop product manager will ever see it???

Found this thread via Google and wanted to say I find this behavior really annoying too and I wish they would fix it instead of just telling us to deal with it.

Chiming in here, after yet another ignored bug report, that this has been over two years on an extraordinarily elementary matter:  it's not that Adobe doesn't have enough time, just that they don't care.  No other Windows application has ever done this.  It's not a universal problem; it's Adobe's problem.

    +1

It drives me nuts too. I think background processes loading causes this problem. I mean look at this:

Each process loads one by one. CC is competing with Chrome browser on this one!

Ok. Ive been having this issue for over 2 years. I too usually have two monitors going and just throw photoshop on the other screen when batch processing and work on the other screen. I really hate that Adobe has forced this on us and never gave us a resolution.

But I think I've found a solution, for me anyhow, is to turn off the Application Frame in the Window menu bar. Unchecking this solved it for me and Photoshop stopped stealing focus/jumping to the foreground/being super f-ing annoying.

Hope this helps everyone and hope Adobe can fix this or at the very least tell us this is the solution!

Sadly, this is an Mac-only option, it doesn't work in Windows.

    Hi everyone

Just checking in on the issue. It has first been brought up 18 month ago, and i'm still experiencing it (Win 10 CC2017.0.1). Does someone know if the devs are working on it ? Michael Witherell, BobLevine, Steve Werner, Joel Cherney, are you in contact with the team ? Is there something we can help you with regarding the matter ?

    Thank you.

It doesn't affect me because I'm on a Macintosh.

Have you filed a bug report here at the link below?

It doesn’t affect me, either and I’m on Windows 10. These apps launch so quickly I don’t see this behavior and to repeat what I’ve said before, launch the apps and leave them launched.

This isn’t anywhere near the top of issues effecting these applications and while I would like to see small annoyances like this eliminated, show-stopping bugs come first.

Ok this is going to be a large rant, so you might decide to skip it.

Guys, to me it's clear that there's no rush for the Adobe developers to fix these things or other myriad of bugs still present after years of complains. Or add simple improvements to the workflow that were asked times and times over by users.

They're still counting on people to continue to pay for and use their software like mules going blindly forward, not trying to switch to alternative solutions because there's always an innate resistance to change and it takes time; for large companies it's a huge effort to switch logistics and third, why should they make any effort when things are looking profitable anyway, stocks are well on the rise and investors are happy. Like that old adage... "the shareholder is always right", was it?

So yeah, several users can complain and suggest stuff but they're always going to be at the "mercy" of the Adobe managers who might or might not decide to throw a bone and allocate some resources to get a fix done even if that seems less profitable from a shareholder pov.

So unless a visible chunk of their user base is starting to switch to competitors, there's no rush to actually make useful improvements - they'll keep tinkering here and there, get some feedback, tinkering a bit more... no pressure, we are already hooked on their software even if it's getting more and more broken. And when you start to question your choice, they're eventually release a long awaited fix from time to time to make you come back again, like saying "see? we're fixing things". We're always playing by their tune, not ours.

    That's what i think, anyway.

In Windows 10, if you right-click an icon; then right-click to bring up the Properties dialog box, you can set the software to Run: Minimized. I find that cuts down on the number of interruptions. Photoshop doesn't seem to cooperate, however.

That's a fantastic suggestion, thank you.

Just to add, Photoshop continues to steal focus while I work in other programs (i.e. not just on launching the program). Some details that may be helpful:

OS: OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

    Photoshop: CC2015.1.2 Release, v20160113.r.355 x64

    Kindly remove this non-native "feature".
