Page Curl PDF starting with Flash Icon

I created a page curl PDF as followed.

Creation of swf file from Indesign document.

Placing swf file in new inDesign file.

Exporting to interactive PDF.

The resulting PDF has a page curl transition which works fine, but each time when opening up the file it shows a blank file with the flash icon and I have to click on it before it shows the actual document.

How can I get rid of this start up icon page?

Click on the imported SWF file and open the Media Panel which you can find in the Digital Publishing Workspace or under the Window Menu in the Interactive options. When you open that panel you will see an option called "Play on Page Load". Make sure the swf is selected and this option is checked before you export the file as an Interactive pdf and it should play correctly each time the pdf is opened.

Thanks everyone, we have managed to convince the client to ditch the page curl all together, Yay!

This might be a solution: Desktop PDF Page Flip Freeware, Page Turning Flipbook Software Free Download | FlipHTML5 also Ajar productions are working on a solution with their in5 application: Ajar Productions » HTML5 Page Flip from InDesign: Sneak Peek of in5 v3.1

As, has been mentioned, you need to explain the issues to your customer.

Not without flash player installed and there is no way to assure that is the case.

The OP was not trying to play the swf with Flash Player. They were using it as an instrument to make an Interactive pdf. I tested the process on my own system (I don't have Flash Player installed) with an old file I'd created back in the olden days and it worked exactly as it was supposed to. From experience I can also tell you that telling a client that something is a horrible idea can be a horrible idea.

I do agree that page curl is a gimmick and personally I wouldn't use it, but we just have to do what the client wants.

I also couldn't agree more about flash, but haven't got an alternative option.

Some constructive feedback on how to actually solve the problem would be much appreciated.

It’s your responsibility to warn the client that this is a horrible idea.

I would encourage you to explore publishing via PDF or Publish Online instead of Flash:

You probably can’t and you should take it as a warning that SWF is as dead as can be. It won’t work if flash player is not installed and won’t work on any mobile device.

Forget the page curl. It’s an annoying gimmick.
