P: Crashing when writing caption metadata

LR Classic is frequently crashing in the metadata caption box. I can't reliably reproduce the issue, it just works for a while then LR disappears and then crash report window appears.

I do notice the text drawing in the caption box gets a bit flaky. Odd or just deleted text appearing then disappearing. MacOS's new caps-lock indicator gets a bit flaky too, before a crash.  I also have dynamic spell checking on, but that appears to be stable.

LR Classic version: 13.0.01

Hello, I am using Lightromm 13.0.1 on macOS Sonoma 14.1 and when I press certain keys on my keybaord (german language) Lightroom crashes/closes immediately. So far the two keys I have identifed are the circonflex/degree-key and the accent grave/aigu-key. It doesn't matter where I press those keys. Is anybody able to reproduce this?

Update: this happnens only when the system keyboard language is set to german, if I switch the language to english, there are no crashes.

@juliend90831669, please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

@Rikk Flohr: Photography, I just submitted a crash report under my Adobe ID email address. To reproduce:

- Connect an Apple Magic Keyboard (extended, French AZERTY) to Mac OS 14.1, LR 13.0.1

- Set LR Preferences > General > Language = English

- Set Mac OS input source language set to French.

- Type a "^" (caret, circumflex), to the right of "P".

LR crashes.

In addition to @IAmTheCameraEye (German keyboard) and @juliend90831669 (Candian multi-lingual), there's at least one other report, on a Spanish keyboard:

I've been having the same problem with a Spanish keyboard for a few days now.
I have opened an incident with Adobe support and after 1 hour of remote connection, the technician has not found a solution to the problem.
We have even tried with the previous version of LR and the same thing happens.
I have also tried bluetooth and wired keyboards with the same result.
Adobesupport has assured me that they will look into the case.
The keys that fail in LR are:
´¨{^`[ (with a Spanish keyboard).

Hi,

I use the last version of Lightroom Classic (13.0.1() and Camera Raw 16.0 on MacOS Sonoma 14.1 (M1 Pro)

When I want to export a picture to a new folder with french cararacter ( for example "Editées") this error message appears (I nerver had this issue before):

"Internal error has occurred

-[__NSCFConstantString characterAtIndex:]:

Range or index out of bounds"

When I write words without letter accents (Editee) it's work fine.

How can I fix it?

Thanks

So far, the only known workaround is to change the Mac OS input source language to English (and use an English keyboard so the labels on the keys match what Mac OS thinks you're typing).

I wonder if this is related to another bug with some languages in LR 13: Try typing the circumflex (caret) key in a caption -- does LR crash?

Subject is self explanatory of this bug - Crash whenever enter any of the special charachters like "āēšķūī" etc. are written in keywod field in Library module.

Im on LR 13.0.1, Mac Sonoma 14.1.1

At the start i though this might be related to a bug where lightroom has errors when acsessing catalog on external drive, but this also accurs when catalog is stored on local drive. Tested on a brand new catalog and lightroom crashes instantly. Has this been resolved btw?

I have keyworded photos in catalog for more 10 years using these charchters in Latvian language and had no issues prior to this release.

Very keenly looking forward to fixing this issue and catalog reading issue from external drive.

"Crash whenever enter any of the special charachters like "āēšķūī" etc. are written in keywod field in Library module."

Does this occur when you copy/paste the characters into the Keywording panel, or just when you type them directly from the keyboard?

If it happens when typing on the keyboard, then:

1. Please post a careful phone pic of the entire keyboard.

2. Which language do you have selected for the Mac OS input language, e.g.

johnrellis_0-1700067500317.png

This will help Adobe understand the scope of the issue.

If this occurs when copy/pasting into the Keywording field, then you may be encountering a different problem than others in this thread, and we'll need to get more details.

My educated guess is that the non-English keyboard bug will be fixed in LR 13.1, likely due in December (I have no inside information).

The moment I type any of these charachters it crashes. I have standard apple keyboard, but in order to acsess these letters for latvian alphabeth I have to use combination of two different keystrokes. For ē - ("+e), for ķ - ("+k). App crashes at the moment I hit the (") key.

IMG_1228.jpegIMG_1230.jpegIMG_1229.jpeg

I can use any other keys on keyboard in keyword area. Its when this one hits it crashes.

I use Apple's keyboard layout for Latvian language and custom made, this error happens on both of them.

It's a bug acknowledged by Adobe.  My educated guess is that it will be fixed in LR 13.1, likely due mid-December.

Meanwhile, some tedious workarounds:

1. Copy and paste the text from another app.

2. Use an English keyboard with the input language set to English.

3. Use the Character Viewer, adding your most used problem characters to its favorites:

https://support.apple.com/sr-rs/guide/mac-help/mchlp1560/14.0/mac/14.0

4. Use the Unicode input method:
