@Ralf_Oh, thanks for the additional information. There must be some setting or cached file specific to the original Microsoft user that got left behind when you moved to the new local user, though you tried deleting the most obvious ones (preferences and LR's cached files).
But it's good you've found a (painful) workaround -- that could help others.
I doubt that Adobe will prioritize this bug -- there are lots of other Map bugs outstanding.

I have been unable to get map module to work for some time - months, a year. I have finally dedicated some time to this and have done everything recomended, short of use a different computer. I have reset preferences, played with firewalls and set up new catalogues. I have closed it on Library and re-opened it to switch to Maps. Nothing. The screen remains greyed out. Once, after clearing cache, I got a map for a few seconds but no tags. Another time a message briefly said LR couldn't connect to servers. Internet is good and Google maps works just fine on a browser. Below is a past of the system details. I am fully up to date with my subscription. Please help. Thank you. R

That bug report lists one recent work around that several users have reported works: Create a new Windows local user (not a "Microsoft" user) and log in to that:
LR squirrels away information in many hidden places, and it appears that there is some corrupted data messing with Maps that we haven't found. (Adobe hasn't shown much interest in fixing Map bugs.)
If creating a new user works, you could try using Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner tool to remove all traces of all Creative Cloud apps and then reinstall. (It won't remove your catalog or presets.) But I suspect that the Map module, which uses a Google Chromium toolkit, may be storing corrupted data in some place that the Cleaner tool doesn't know about.
To help others, please report back whether or not these two steps help.

After much tinkering, I have it working but only with version 14.1. It may be there's a couple of versions ahead that it works but too tedious. It'll do for now but shame this isn't sorted in latestest update. Thank you all.

Hello, This problem has been occurring for many users recently - usually it is because Lightroom loses the connection to the map servers (Google Maps / Mapbox).
Please try the following:
Close and restart Lightroom.
In the preferences under “Performance,” briefly deactivate the “Use graphics processor” option , then reactivate it.
If that doesn't help, log out of Adobe Creative Cloud and log back in.
Some users also report that the map module works automatically again after a day so it seems to be a server-side issue.

This is so rediculous!
It is almost a year since i reported this error. Several updates later - including a major revision update - and Adobe has still not addressed this issue, expecting their customers to resort to all kinds of risky hacks in order to get their software working. Apprently they prioritize pumping Lightroom full og all kinds of A.I. crap-features, instead of making the core product work. I guess its time to move on from Adobe - that's a hard call after so many years
I'd be happy to help get you an answer to this issue, but first, I need a few more details. Can you share your system info? You can find this by going to Help > System Info while in Lightroom Classic.
^CM
P.S. I've also moved your post to the Lightroom Classic Board.
