Add Color Label to Export

I want to export copies of some images back to the same folder with a different color label than the original. Is there a way to automatically add a color label to an export? Possibly with an export action of some type? I don't know how to write an export action.

Color labels only exist within the Lightroom catalog, and therefore can only be seen in Lightroom. They cannot be attached or made part of an exported image. The color label is an attribute for sorting or separating images within Lightroom, but it is not an attribute that is part of a standard file format.

I want the exported file to go back into Lightroom right next to the original - just with a different label. I want to find different versions of the same image for different purposes easily. So the export goes right back into Lightroom. It could be done with a virtual copy but I might need to work on the virtual copy in Photoshop and I don't think that's possible.

Deleting the virtual copy after creating the Ps edit is a good workflow. But just to be clear for the OP, you won’t get the ”edit a copy with Lightroom edits” menu option if you are starting from a virtual copy of a raw image. That happens automatically.

Yeah, you got a point there. I was playing with a JPEG image. But the process is the same with a raw image EXCEPT you won't be given the choice. And the copy will still be created, and it will have the color label that was chosen for the virtual copy. I forgot that I was playing with a JPEG image. I've been playing with JPEG images a little lately. They aren't quite as poisonous as some seem to think.
