Application hangs during mask edits

New Here ,
Nov 21, 2022 Nov 21, 2022

Issue: Lightroom Classic hangs after update to LR Classic 12.0.1 when performing individual editing steps (e.g. in masking mode)

  • Lightroom Classic Version Number: 12.0.1
  • OS Version Number: Windows 11
  • Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open mask mode
  2. Create several masks
  3. Switch between the masks with enabled "Show overlay" tick

Expected result: The overlay of the current mask is shown
Actual result: When switching to the other mask the overlay of the first mask is still shown. The loading circle is active all the time. The tooltip of the loading circle says "GPU-Randering"

Additional info:

No such issues with the previous version of LR Classic. The Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics driver is uptodate.

The first thing that you should try is to switch off the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps to fix the issue.

Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > Restart Lightroom.

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/lightroom-gpu-faq.html#troubleshooting

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

If Lightroom doesn't start correctly the please see "Solution 2" in the document behind the second link.

Troubleshoot GPU issues | Lightroom Classic (adobe.com)

Another step is to try to reset the Lightroom preferences.

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

Do you get an error message? If yes, please post the exact message or an screenshot.

Hi Axel,

Thank you for the responce. Switching off the GPU solves the issue, but the whole processing is much slower then.

Unfortunately the Adobe Support Community admins seem to convert the problem cases just to discussion without comment (maybe to improve the statistics and avoid really trouble cases?). Very disappointing experience 😞 It makes sense to cancel the subscription.

@AxelMatt 's troubleshooting recommendations have revealed you have an issue with the current driver you are using for your GPU. You might contact the GPU manufacturer and see if they have a fix coming.

Hi Rikk! And for which fix should be asked by GPU manufacturer? Fix for the Lightroom? What is the issue specifically? I mentioned no problems with other applications.

Check see if there is an update available from the manufacturer of your GPU card. Do not rely on the updates from Wndows.

Please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running.

Hi @johnrellis!

Here are the current settings, whereby I have tried different drivers (all of them from GPU manufacturer). The value with the used GPU memory looks suspicious (1319%).

Still essential for me is that no problems occurred before the Lightroom update (LR Classic).

I've already posted the issue, but if I reply in the thread, my answer is immediately removed after posting: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/application-hangs-during-mask-edits/m-p...

Issue: Lightroom Classic hangs after update to LR Classic 12.0.1 when performing individual editing steps (e.g. in masking mode)

  • Lightroom Classic Version Number: 12.0.1
  • OS Version Number: Windows 11
  • Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open mask mode
  2. Create several masks
  3. Switch between the masks with enabled "Show overlay" tick

Expected result: The overlay of the current mask is shown
Actual result: When switching to the other mask the overlay of the first mask is still shown. The loading circle is active all the time. The tooltip of the loading circle says "GPU-Randering"

Additional info:

  • No issues with the previous version of LR Classic.
  • I tried different drivers from the website of GPU manufacturer
  • In the original thread @Rikk Flohr: Photography mentioned, I should ask GPU manufacturer for a fix. My question is, for which fix should be asked by GPU manufacturer? Fix for the Lightroom? What is the issue specifically? I mentioned no problems with other applications.
