batch rename selected images with incrementing leading digit to force sorting sequence

I have large number of scanned old family pics.  Other programs such as Family Tree Maker genealogy cannot read the EXIF dates and will only sort by alpha file name.  I need to batch rename them incrementally to force sorting sequence.  It is easy to add a sequence at the end but I need it at the front of the filename.
