Question

Can Lightroom synchronize the folder automatically without my having to do it manually for each jpeg edit?

Can Lightroom synchronize the folder automatically without my having to do it manually?

I generally open raw files in PS from LR to edit fine details. LR slows down my computer too much for detailed edits. After saving the PSD (which does auto sync to LR), I need multiple sizes of jpegs so I either do a Save As from PS or an Export from LR. Either way these do not show up in my LR catalog until I manually sync the folder (right clicking on the folder and clicking through the synchronize folder "wizard"). I'm looking to speed up my work flow by cutting out this last step. I've looked for an auto sync setting for the catalog but can't seem to find one.

I realize it might not be everyone's cup of tea to have jpeg copies in LR, but for my particular purposes it's the most efficient solution.

If this feature is available, please let me know where to find it. Else, just let me know that it's not available - no need to let me know why it should or should not exist.

Thanks!

No, and I am completely flabbergasted how Adobe hasn't included auto sync folders buy now.

The dumb thing will sync your cloud changes but not your disk changes ... Go figure, these developers. Probably they have 0 photographers on team.

I think there is a different reason: the way Lightroom is intended to be used. Being a non-destructive editor, Lightroom can export images in different sizes/quality/file formats at any time. That means there is no need to save these exported images in your catalog, because you can re-export the image if and when you need to. Export an image, use it for the intended reason and delete it after use. Export again when you need the same size/quality image again. Export with different settings if you need the same image but for a different purpose (like print instead of web).

Adobe added the option to add an exported image to the catalog because people were asking for it constantly, but it does make a lot more sense not to clutter your catalog with multiple copies of the same image and try to work with the app the way it was intended. If you need to drive a screw into a piece of wood, then you use a screwdriver. Don't use a hammer and then complain that the manufacturer apparently has no clue what screws are.

I am not talking about exported images but reflecting the structure of folders. If LR can see when a file is gone from a folder, why do I need to go through sync folder when I add a file/s directly to a folder?

In the "Export Location' section for LR exports there is a checkbox option to "add to this catalog"

Check that and the exports will get added into your catalog in the exported folder location.

As for those from PS perhaps exporting those files to a watched folder in LR would work for you.(check the auto-import options in File menu).
