Question

converting raw images to jpeg in the catalog and the original file

I shoot using a Pixel 7.  I mostly shoot art at museums.

I shoot a work and then the museum panel/label immediately afterwards, associating the work with the artist, name, etc.

I want the art to be RAW.  I post-process most images and enter some information from the panel/label into meta-data fields.

I want to save (just in case) the information panel/label, but it could be jpg.....In fact, they fill up storage unnecessarily.

Recently, Google Photos/Camera changed the way the store and display when you select both a raw and jpeg image.  It used to be easy to go through and select all jpg images and the raw text panels and delelt them.....now, it's about 3x the effort.

As I think about ways to re-work my workflow to speed up the "new" workflow....I wondered....

THE QUESTION:

Can one convert an image in LR Classic from RAW to jpg without having to export and import and delete the raw versions?

I don't think I can, but hoping someone can prove me wrong.

Apparently you have this turned off (unchecked)

NO. I don't know of any software that converts from RAW to JPG without creating a new file.

However, if you want the exported JPG included in the LrC catalog, that is easy and can be done in one export step, but the RAW won't be deleted. That would be another step in LrC. Maybe someone can write a script to do this, or use Photoshop actions to do this.

So, I could select all the RAW panel/txt files, export as jpeg, import them and then delete all the raw versions (my gallery displays the file type, so that would be easy).

Gotta think about how that compares to cleanup in Google Photos.

Thanks!

As I said, the creation/export of a JPG and import of that JPG into the catalog is really one step.
