Creating virtual copies not working

When I try to create a virtual copy on Lr Classic 14.2 (Command ') it just says it will sync the image to LR when syncing is enabled. Doesn't create a virtual copy. And if I go to the menu the function is greyed out.

What is happening? I need to be able to create virtual copies.

Help appreciated - thank you

Are you in a folder that is offline? I can only think of the possibility that the folder your image is in is on a disk that is not currently mounted. Otherwise it should work anywhere.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I worked it out - it was my error. I was making the virtual copies of a photo that was in a smart collection and the copies weren't going into the smart collection but into the main library.
