Filter or Metadata issue?

Engaged ,

Good morning,
In Lrc - I've noticed a strange behaviour a few times recently importing two different versions of a file, both from the same day (May 25th in this case).
Every morning I have my filter set up so that I see all the photos I ever took on this day. So the filter on top is set to May, then for the 'Day' column I have it set for 26 because today is the 26th, and the year column is set to all the years.
Yesterday I worked with a portraint created yesterday - I made a larger version in Ps and brought it back to Lrc. That modified file shows for May 25 - but the original file shows for May 26, a day later. This happened yesterday so the original file magically shifted to the next day.

Both are in the May 25th folder, both have metadata for May 25th.

Why would the modified file be the correct day but the original show as the day after?
I see no evidence of a metadata issue.

Hey @Immaculens!
That’s definitely an interesting one.

If Lightroom is showing a different date than what’s in the EXIF data, it usually means there’s a conflict — either the metadata was modified outside of Lightroom, or Lightroom might be reading from the wrong field. Have you noticed this happening with other files too, or is it just this one?

In the meantime, there’s a quick workaround: You can select the photos with the incorrect dates in the Library view, then go to Metadata > Edit Capture Time to manually set the correct date and time to match the actual capture moment.

Cheers,
Alek

The most efficient way to get to the bottom of this is to upload the two files to Wetransfer, Dropbox, Google Drive or similar free service and post the sharing link here. We can put them under the microscope to see what's going on. From what you describe, it sounds like an issue with time zones in the metadata, but the only way to tell for sure is to see the actual files.

Interesting point about different time zones - thre is a 2 or 3 hour difference in this particular case, but not enough to leap into the next day..

It was a selfie taken by a friend and she messaged it to me. It was a small file so I brought it into Ps and enlarged it and gave it higher resolution. When I imported both the original jpeg and the Ps tiff into Lrc - both had metadata saying it was May 25th, 2025 and both were in the May 25th folder.
But - when viewing in the library filter - the Tiff correctly showed itself in May 25th - but the jpeg showed itself in May 26th - despite its metadata saying its May 25th...
This is the 2nd time I have seen this bug in about 8 days. I 'think' Ps was also involved in the first instance over a week ago.

I can't share the files sorry, privacy issue.
