How to Move Folder and image edits to a different folder?

Good day,

trying to figure out my new workflow as I just recently started taking full advantage of the lightroom, so I have to make a looooot of changes to what used to be my routine.

Situation:

Multiple NEF files that are in lightroom folders, all NEFs are edited.

Question:

how do I move those NEF files and the associated edits to a different location? Ultimately, I want to move them to an external drive as I need to free up space.

thank you in advance.

it is not different by any means.

The only purpose this will serve is a backup of the images; I do not plan on coming back to them, and they will be wiped out 5 years from the date of capture, however, if within the 5 years someone asks me to provide any part of the information, I just want to pull up my server, open the folder and create another export.

At the same time, I do not want lightroom to be cluttered with the old folders I don't plan on using.

When creating the basic edits with the bridge, it creates the XMP file which retains all the adjustments. If I could create something like this via lightroom, and just store the folder, it would be a great help.

    thanks

I have seen it suggested to-

    1. Select folders that you want to "Archive"

    2. Right-click a selected folder and [Export this Folder as a Catalog]

    3. Check on [Include Negative Files]

    4. Save (or move) the exported catalog and files to the 'archive' drive. (Server?)

    5. Delete the photos and folders from the working catalog.

I just want to pull up my server, open the folder and create another export.

This would then be-  Copy the "Archived" Catalog & photos back to a 'local' drive and open the  "Archived" CATALOG and create another export.

And after all that- it seems that the  Ctrl/S 'Save metadata' would be the simpler route to follow.

To do the move to another drive, read "Part 2 — Updating Folder Location" at this document: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders

I've seen the article, but I don't think it is going to do the trick for me.

Can lightroom create an equivalent of the xmp files?

I do not want to retain the folder structure in my lightroom, I just want to retain the changes made to images, and store those images and preferences on a network drive I will have access to once or twice a week only.
