I updated to 4.4 last week and started to have import problems yesterday to my mac desktop. I am getting a can't read the raw file message. Pictures still import perfectly well to my non lightroom upgraded retinal MacBook Pro. Is there an issue that you are aware of and is there a fix?

thanks,

Robert Sommers

I also have the same problem. I run the latest Mac OS, have no devices plugged in. Lightroom 4.4 will not import files from Nikon D90, Nikon D300 or Fuji X20. I have not mixed video and still images on my cards, just still images. I can see the images in preview but when I try to import I get a message that say that there is a problem with the following files and then it lists the files on the memory card. I tried the Lightroom 5 Beta as well and the problem remains, then I uninstalled 4.4, downloaded and installed 4.3 and it still remains. When I created a dummy account on my mac it works from that account. What do I do now?

Well, I am glad I am not alone!  I am having problems importing .RAF files (raw files for Fujifilm x-Pro 1 camera).  LR 4.4, among other things, was to provide improved raw conversion of these X-Trans sensor pictures.

I am having the same problem reported by others.  I get the message "The following files were not imported becasue they could not be read."  And a list of files follows.  I am running OSX 10.8.3 on an iMac and LR 4.4 with Camera Raw 7.4.  The iMac is the latest 27" model.

Just for fun, I tried some Canon .CRW files, which have always worked.  Same result!! Files are not being imported, because "they could not be read."

Hardware issues?  I tried the builtl-in card reader and an external reader for the SD card from the Fuji camera and an external reader (which has always worked previously) for the .CRW files (which uses the larger, Compact Flash, cards and doesn't fit in the card reader in the iMac.  Still no luck.

Houston, I think we have a problem.

Steve, check the folder permissions for the drive you're importing to.  You'll probably find that the folder permissions for the folder itself are fine.  But then select the whole drive, check the permissions are correct, and click the cog icon and Apply to Enclosed Items.  It's a weird one we're seeing regularly since Mountain Lion's release, and the error message is a little misleading.

For those still having IMPORT problems... Are you running the Jeffrey Freidel export plugins?  I have not idea how or if they could effect import... but mine were slightly out of date and since updating them I am happy to say that I have been able to import from a mixed media card, both MOV and CR2 files!!!

Also, I noticed that LR4.4 now actually closes when I hit the close button, which it did not do before.

That's a brilliant bit of detective work, well done!!  Which plug-ins were you running?  We ought to let Jeffrey know.

    Pete:

I've posted several places in this forum, I am running Mac 10.8 on an early 2007 24" iMac with 8GB RAM and a dual core Intel processor. Two hours before my unfortunate upgrade to LR 4.4 I imported several Nikon D600 NEFs with no problems using LR 4,3. I tried changing SD cards, uninstalling and reinstalling LR 4.4,  uninstalling LR 4.4 and reinstalling LR 4.3, installed LR 4.3 and rebooted several times, changed the preference file name, even tried an Olympus RAW file to see if it made a difference. Finally I went back in Time Machine and resrored a "clean" version of LR 4.3. I have no presets on import other than default settings. Nothing works.

The images appear pre import in Library. I get two mesaages 1) can't save to the cat address, and more frequently,  2) Can't read the file with a  list of the files. It's obvious LR 4.4 changed a fundemental component of my operating system that trancends whatever version of LR I install. My last option might be to do a full system back up restore and see what comes of it unless your on staff Evangelist can come up with a miracle soon. The NEFs are piling up.

Have you tried creating a new dummy User account to test with? If you log in as this new User, does everything work?

I am on a Win& 64 bit machine and LR4.4 Import does not work either!  VERY upsetting.  Using Bridge I can copy the files from my card to the HD, but LR will not import more than half of the time... either copying or adding.  This is KILLING my workflow Adobe!!!!

What details would you like.  I am running LR 4.4 on a WIN 7 (64) i7 quad intel with 16GB Ram.

When I click on import and navigate to my card reader, LR sees the files and then nothing happens.  I can tell if it is going to work because when the few times it does LR shows how many files it will be adding to each destination folder.  But for the past week LR sees the files on the cards and they are all checked but it will not add them to the catalogue or move them to the HD.  It just does nothing!  I tried using Bridge to copy the files and then just import them to the catalogue as an ADD... and it still does not do anything.

I am not a newbie to LR.  I have been using it since it came out in 2006 and teach classes on LR one day a week.  There is a horrible glitch in this release.

Which version of MacOS are you working with Robert?

What camera make/model are you importing your pictures from?

    How are you importing?

Can you import images that are not from this Camera? Like a downloaded JPG file?

What is the exact error message text you are seeing? (could even provide a screenshot of the error)

    Thanks & Regards,

    Pete

Pete I am using the operating system Mac 10.6.8.. I am using a Nikon D7000 shooting raw and D40x and had the same problem with both cameras on successive days. I am importing through a usb cable. I had the same  problem with both raw and jpeg.  The first day, Friday, it eventually worked. I shutdown and rebooted the computer saturday and it  started to work properly and function normally again. So I can't give you a screen shot at the moment but figure that if it has happened twice, it will probably happen again. To paraphrase, it is a "can not read the file" message with a nef graphic showing up in the respective lightroom frames.  I will contact you if I get the message again.

Thank you so much for responding.

    Thanks for the response Robert,

Good to hear that it is working for you, definitely let us know if you continue to experience trouble and we'll look into it.

I know that with Nikon's CaptureOne application we have seen cases where that can cause the Nikon camera images to become corrupted while importing from card using Nikon's software. We recommend that you import directly from the Camera within Lightroom, or better yet, using a card reader on your computer and importing into lightroom from the card directly.

    Thanks again for the update,

    Have a great week.

    Regards,

    Pete
