Question

importing duplicate photos

I wanted to import some photos from an old hard drive which had old photos on it, some are in my catalog but some are not. Normally LR classic CC automatically only imports new photos. This time it looked like it was going to import photos that are already on the main hard drive with my catalog with the same name, metadata and file size, and still is importing duplicate copies, giving the second copies the "-2" extension. How do I stop LR doing this?

As mentioned above the option in the Import dialog to "Don't Import suspected Duplicates" should stop duplicate images from being imported.

But if the images are on some other drive and you are going to copy or move them to a folder that does not have any images in it even though some of those images are already in your catalog LR may not see them as duplicates. Also if they have been changed in some way LR may not see them as duplicates.

Please post a screen shot of your full import dialog window so we can see what options you have selected.

Make sure Don't Import Suspected Duplicates is checked during the import.
