There is no longer any on-line activation for Lr 6. To do the move, you will need to follow these instructions https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-move-lightroom-to-new-computer/ and then to install Lr 6 you will need to use the offline activation method https://community.adobe.com/t5/download-install-discussions/lightroom-6-on-a-new-pc/m-p/14638713#M580921
Adobe does not provide technical support for any issues regarding Lr 6.
To install Lr 6, use the offline activation method. https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/lightroom-6-sign-in-required/m-p/14822708#M376764

I recently purched a cd for Lightroom 6. After installation it will not let me open the software without logging into the Adobe account. Which after logging it I do not know where to activate the software with the serial # key that I have. It wants me to pay a monthly fee. Please advise. Thank you for your time.

@Michael27843183v3pi If you purchased recently, then you have been sold a 'brick'.
Lr6 is 10years old and has not been officially sold or supported by Adobe for several years.
Adobe have shut down the activation servers for Lr6 and the only recent way known to run Lr6 might be found in the Correct Answers given on Page 1 of this forum thread.

I have 6.14 installed but want to try the latest LrClassic but I'd like to avoid any issues if I subsequently decide to revert to 6.14. So does LrC install to a different directory and use a different catalog such that if I unsubscribe later I retain all the edits previously made using 6.14?
Can the 6.14 catalog be imported into LrC?
Thanks!

@ferrari_sf Don't try if you expect to return to Lr6! Reverting to Lr6 will be a nightmare. Lightroom-Classic requires that you install the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App. This will convert your Lr6 to the subscription version that was called Lightroom CC2015. So reverting will involve a total clean and re-install of Lr6 with the difficulties (or impossibility) stated in this forum thread.
"Can the 6.14 catalog be imported into LrC?" Yes, but there is no 'importing' involved. The Lr6 catalog when opened by Lightroom-Classic will ask to be upgraded to work with the improved catalog structure used by Lr-Classic.
Do you research and make your decision about upgrading to v14 with its many advantages.

I have been using Lr version 6 desktop for several years. I have decided to subscribe to Lr Classic. I downloaded the Lr Classic desktop software and have unsucessfully been able to open my Lr version 6 catalog. Is there anyway to open my old catalog and convert it so that I can continue using this catalog in Lr Classic? If not, what are my options to get everything I have worked on for years into a new Lr Calssic catalog including presets, edits, previews, etc.

Opening your Lr6 catalog with Lr-Classic- Do you see any error messages? (quote in exact words). And provide some more details of your catalog location, etc.
There were a few forum posts with a similar situation (upgrading a v6 catalog) that required an install of an earlier version of Lr-Classic eg. Version 13.0 (still available in the CC Desktop App) to upgrade the v6 catalog, then after catalog success upgrade to Lr-Classic v14.4
Also another error message thata has been seen warns about a missing { .LRCAT-DATA} folder, but this is not a problem- ignore this message if you see it. ( IIRC {.LRCAT-DATA} folder did not appear in installs until LrC v13.3 )

I see no error messages when opening Lr 6.x All functioning ok there? Should I download Lr Classis v13 and try opening my Lr 6.x catalog? Then download version 14?

Can you explain in more detail what you mean by "unsucessfully been able to open". If you do not see error messages- what do you see?
So you still have Lr6 working in your system-correct?
And you have Lightroom-Classic v14.4 also installed- correct?
Can you try this sequence of steps-
1) Copy the {Henry's Catalog.LRCAT } file to another folder location. (eg. Create a new folder in {Documents} )
2) Rename the Copy .LRCAT catalog file -in particular removing the apostrophe (just call it Henrys Catalog)
3) Start Lightroom-Classic by opening it from the Creative Cloud Desktop App.
This may well start and open with a totally new empty catalog.
4) In Lr-Classic go to the Menu > File > Open Catalog (Keyboard shortcut [Ctrl+O] )
5) Search and choose the copied catalog you renamed
This should attempt to open the catalog {Henrys Catalog} and give you the 'upgrade' dialog asking if you want to convert the catalog to be compatible with v14.4
Example of the catalog upgrade dialog.
6) Choose [Upgrade]
Report back to let us know where you got to. Did you see this upgrade message?

Ok I found the problem. Adobe installed Lr v8.x with a shortcut on my desktop. This version would not open the v6.x catalog. I launched Lr Classic V14.x from the creative cloud app and upon launching that version it immediately asked to upgrade my old catalog to v14.x and backed my old catalog to a .zip file. Thank you for you help.

Hi all,
I have been a happy user os Lightroom 6 for years. A few days ago my SSD broke down which ment I had to get a new clean SSD with a clean Windows 10 on it. How do I install LR 6 again?
I found an installer for it (not on Adobe's pages), but when it tells to log in during installation it says I should update the browser..? Everything is up to date and I can't update anything. How to fix this? And how do I install LR 6?

I don't think you can. A new disk and a clean version of Windows will no doubt convince Lightroom 6 this is a new computer. That means it will need to register again, but as far as I know those servers are now taken offline.

I have a difficult time understanding this. I bought the software. I own it. Yet I am not allowed to install it. Instead Adobe is forcing me to buy something new.. What a scam.

Yeah, life if full of scams like that. I bet you did not get a free SSD replacement either, did you?

Of course not. The SSD broke down. LR6 did not. Strange comparison...
Likewise, I don't have to pay once again for all of my other software that I have downloaded again. I could ask you, if you get a new phone can you download all your paid apps to the new phone, or do you have to buy them once again? It would be ridiculous if you had to buy again, right?
It's like if my engine of my car was replaced, and then I had to buy to have the doors and wheels replaced as well.

Thanks for the explanation. Good to know its useless to try. To me this is a crime, probably committed a long time ago, but still. Adobe sold me a product and then they destroy my ability to use it.
I'm still using Lightroom 6.14 and happy with it. Now I need a new computer, and thanks to this, bye bye Lightroom. I wouldn't even consider buying anything from Adobe again, I cant deal with thoose who has proven themself untrustworthy. I'm going with ACDSee now, it can import Lightrroom databases.

As of the last few months, you need to follow the "offline installation method" for installing Lr 6. Many people have reported this still works. https://community.adobe.com/t5/download-install-discussions/lightroom-6-on-a-new-pc/m-p/14638713#M58...

"when it tells to log in during installation it says I should update the browser..?"
Please post a full-resolution screenshot (not a phone pic) of the entire screen showing that message (the rest of the screen could provide important context).

Here are screenshots of the installation process. It is in Danish though..
The last one roughly says: "Update the browser. To use Adobe services you must update your Adobe apps, operating system and the browser to the newest versions." I have done all that.

I forgot one thing! When I open the installer it now gives me this warning (it didn't do that yesterday). It says I should restart before continuing. I have done that, but still this warning.

The installer appears very confused. You could try running the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to delete all traces of Adobe Creative Cloud apps and then try reinstalling:

Also, where did you get your copy of the 6.14 installer? You can get a trustworthy copy of Adobe's installer from here:
