Lightroom Classic 14.5.1 freezes while applying Denoise

Lightroom Classic crashes now over the last 6 Days very often (most of the time) when i try to apply Denoise, then the progress Bar shows up and at some point of the process ( at different % of progress) it freezes my whole System mostly with a black screen, which then follows by a Automatic Restart of my Notebook.... ( Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage with AMD 5900HX and AMD 6800 AMD Driver is Adrenalin 25.9.1 )

there were only 1 or 2 exceptions of this error when it freezed with a randomly colorful pixelated pattern with a parttime black screen saying: Your System ran into a Problem and needs to Restart, Stop code: Clock Watchdog Timeout (0x101)

I had no Problems over a long time with this system.

What I tried so far : a Inplace repair install of Windows 11, uninstalled and reinstalled the latest AMD GPU, CPU and Chipset Drivers the normal Way, but also with DDU.....uninstalled Asus Armoury Crate, i have latest BIOS and Bios Defaults,.... then sfc/ scannow, DISM , Windows Memory Tests, still the same......Also my Windows doesnt produce a Minidump, although it should because i checked and adjusted the Expanded System settings for doing it..... Disabled GPU Acceleration in Lightroom, it still happend,....  slowly im beginning to run out of Ideas...

Whatelse can i try now!!???

Hi, @Sameer K

The troubleshooting Steps didnt changed anything so far, the  System Freezes still happen sadly....

The Strange thing is: Yesterday Evening i had only 1 Freeze, and after a restart i could Denoise Several Images without any Issue...... but Today the same Problem came back again as before, i could Denoise maybe 1 or 2 Images and then the System freeze occured again and again..... its like a lottery.....

But Today Windows finally wrote a New Minidump, maybe you can find something in that one:?

I really have only Troubles with Lightroom with my Machine.... everything else works so far without problems.....

I also called Asus today but they said they cant help, i should go to Adobe Support, because it happens only in Lightroom.....

 Another thing is, when i work in Lightroom Classic, the CPU Temp can go Up to sometimes around 90 to 93 C° is this Normal? ( Yes i cleaned the Notebook and the Airvents they work ) The GPU Temp is around 48-50° which is ok i think.

This suggests the problem might be caused by Norton Utilities.  Temporarily disable all Norton anti-malware on your computer. Does LR still freeze?

I disabled Norton utilities and Autoprotect, also tried the suggestions from Sameer K,.... freezes still happens...

I also found out now that the same freeze Error happens when i run Furmark to Stress my GPUs. it happens the faster the Higher the resolution is, @ 4K it doesnt take long and freezes......)

At some Point it will freeze my whole System in the same Way like in Lightroom no more reaction, and the Screen freezes with the showed image on it, its not a black screen...... i also rolled back to the Previous AMD Drivers via AMD uninstall clean utility, reinstalled Lightroom, loaded the LR Configuration defaults, tested with or without external Display connected  to either USB-C or HDMI, both the same behaviour... 

I think this trouble  began more or less around the same time when i switched from Win 10 to 11 ( sadly) maybe its a Windows Bug? 

Another thing is when using Denoise, the Notebook will make some "ticking" Noise inside, but... that is something i experienced earlier too, when all still worked. Dont know if this is normal, because of the High GPU Load, or if its a slowly progressing Hardware fault??? Or  some Software Driver error deep in the System?

Really running out of Ideas slowly..... and the Support from Asus couldnt help too until now....

Hi, thanks for sharing the additional info! 

Just out of curiosity, where are the images you're working on stored? Does the notebook have an additional mechanical hard drive? Asking that because you mentioned a "ticking" noise.

This indicates the issue is hardware-related. You've got a widely used AMD processor and GPU that have been shipped for several years, so I think it's unlikely its a Windows or graphics driver issue, and not a LR issue, since it occurs without LR running.

Hi there,

My Images are stored on the Internal SSD C: System Drive, and also on an external Samsung T7 SSD, the freezes will occur with Images from both SSDs.....

Still not sure about a Hardware related Problem, because i had the ticking Noise since the beginning back in 2022,

Also i had 2 or 3 times over these 3 years troubles with the Lightroom Denoise Crashes only, and then after some new AMD Drivers and Lightroom Versions came out they disappeared mysteriously...

Im in contact now with The Asus Tech Support, and i have now to run some Tests over The Weekend, and then we hopefully can see clearly if its Hardware... or AMD, Adobe, Microsoft, whatever related....

The strange thing is, since i (was forced to more or less) "upgraded" to this Windows 11 thing, my second SSD disappeared 2 times in Explorer, but luckily came back after a Restart.... i never had such funny things in windows 10...... so im not 100% sure about only Hardware related........

dont know if i forgot to mention it : i use the Notebook on an external 4k Monitor connected  via USB-C to Displayport cable
