Lightroom Classic Windows 11 will not open

I can no longer get the Lightroom Classic to open. Nothing has changed on my side and this started 4 days ago to my recollection. It is running per Task Manager but nothing on the screen. Rebooted many times and turned off for hours and tried again, nothing. I read here in April of 2023 another had the same issue and the solution was removing a metrics.json file that seemed to work in that April 2023 post but I cannot find that file anywhere. Suggestions? Photo Well My Friends

So, you used Windows File Explorer:

  1. select the C drive
  2. selected Users
  3. select your username (the one you log into the PC with)
  4. select AppData
  5. select Local
  6. select Adobe
  7. select Lightroom (not Lightroom CC)
  8. select Caches

and opps no metrics.json

In my rig (LrC is working) I see no such file either.

Hmm, a question is what is metrics.json for? When is it created? When is it (If) deleted?

Some discussions indicate that metrics.json may have related to a bug that has been fixed.

This should not be the issue. You should get an error message if it is. But...

Using Windows File Explorer, bring up the folder your catalog is in, and see if a lock file exists. This lock file should only get created upon LrC start, and deleted upon LrC close. It will not get deleted if LrC crashes, or you force quit LrC. It exists to prevent more than one instance of a catalog being open on a computer at one time. You should get a error message if it exists, but...

I am experiencing the same issue. Last weekend I edited images in LrC with no problems, yesterday I tried to open LrC and it doesn't open, just shows up in Task Manager.

I found old threads from 2023 which mentioned the metrics.json file that GoldingD has mentioned, however, I don't seem to have an App Data folder in the location they say to look for it.

I've just tried deleting the lock file that was also mentioned, that hasn't solved the issue.

I see there was a new update for LrC released a few days ago, I can only assume that as my creative cloud says I am updated there was a bug with the update. I hope it gets fixed quickly.

Can you take a video capture of the failure, and share that in a reply

also:

A couple of tests to attempt and see what occurs.

Note, can you take a video capture while attempting these, then include them in a reply.

I suspect the first test below will fail, but I recommend testing it out anyhow.

1. Starting LrC from Widows File Explorer. Bring up Windows File Explorer. Locate the catalog. Double click on it. This in case some odd issue exists with the shortcuts.

2. Starting a new catalog. To see if perhaps your catalog is corrupt. So corrupt that you do not get an error message. While holding down on the ALT key on your keyboard, click or double click on one of your LrC startup icons. This should bring up a LrC prompt asking you to select a catalog. In this case, select the button "Create a New Catalog"

[Mod: Branched from an older thread]

[Original: Hey, so like so many here I have encountered an issue with my LR Classic. I opened it, synced my catalog since I just got a new PC and then in the final step wanted to paste my Presets into LR. Well during that time LR began using more and more RAM (up to 30 of my 32GB)...which I was confused about but just ignored. Well in the final Step I changed the App language since it was in German and I wanted it to be in English. Then I closed the app to restart it and that is where the issue began. IT. WILL. NOT. OPEN!]

Unfortunately you haven't given us any information about your system. Therefore, all proposed solutions are a look into the crystal ball

Is your system up-to-date? Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver. If you have a NVidia graphic card installed, make sure that you are using the recent Studio version of the driver, not the Game Ready version.

Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the LrC Help > System Info menu item. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

Do you get an error message? If yes, please post the full message word-by-word.

What you've trying by your own to solve the issue?

@GoldingD

I've branched it from a one year old thread. I've don't see this actual discussion.
