LR 2.4 automatically  senses a CF card and starts up...I dont want this..

I UN-checked the box

"  preferences; import; 'show dialog when a memory card is detected'   "

but it rechecks itself when it LR closed...  and reopened...

i.e   I shut down LR...and reopen the dialog and sure enough it is rechecked..

I dont want LR to auto  try and respond to a CF card inserted

I also have adobe elements 4 installed  and tried to find any related stuff that MIGHT be 'rechecking' the box ...as an ADOBE system parameter...or something

this SEEMED to start occuring when I installed the latest LR 2.4....no issues before this

during last 2 yrs etc

using Win7 RC ... BUT this was NOT happening for past months... with previous LR and Win7...

and Win7 beta also...no issues..........JUST the new LR 2.4 install

HELP

After posting a previous comment, I've discovered that I have this problem exactly.  And after reading many volumes of comments, it appears Photoshop LR 2.4 is not fixed, nor is there a fix.  I feel ripped-off.  Not only have Adobe failed to "make good" on a a fix.  They have failed to offer us something better as a free replacement.  I think this is totally unacceptable.  I've bought many Adobe products over the years, but this one has spoiled it. http://web-max.info

    Windows 7 Professional 64bit  /  Lightroom v2.6

Art - I was one of the big complainers when this problem started. v2.5 fixed the problem for me, and the current revision 2.6 is fine. Suggest you make the update and give it a try - IM

Man this is a really annoying bug. September tomorrow and still no fix from Adobe.

Anyway, I just wanted to add that the registry permissions fix written about in this thread works for me on Windows 7 RC (64 bit).

By the way, I'm in no way affiliated with "Geoff the Kiwi", who given his input into this thread should perhaps change his screen name to "Geoff the Adobe Apologist". It would be nice if someone actually from Adobe put an appearance in to reassure upset users that they are working on this, and advise when we can expect a fix.

    Thanks for your input Dave........

There are very few users having problems, maybe you should be looking at why your system has this occur and not others. The last time there was a major issue with an LR release, To Hogarty - the Product Manager, apologised publicly and a dot release was made available asap.

This issue is being investigated and I would expect that the next LR release will not be too far down the line given the release timeline so far. I would expect a fix then - keeping in mind that it is impossible to test any application against all the possible combinations of hardware and software especially those out there for PC's.

We all appreciate how frustrating these things are..........

Yes, on further investigation I was dissapointed to find that the registry edit did not fix the problem.

At first I though it was probably some problem between LR and Windows 7 RC, but then reading this I see others running Vista have the same issue. Seems to be specific to 64 bit versions though. I did send a bug report, and I hope Adobe come up with a fix soon. It's a hell of a lot more annoying than it sounds. It's amazing how many things you plug into your computer have images on them. This morning I opened a Windows Home Server backup, and of course as soon as my machine mounted the backup image, LR popped up and wanted to download several thousand photos. I'm going to see if I still have a copy of LR 2.3 and see if that solves it.

I generally love Adobe software (with the exception of the endlessly problematic Acrobat), but needless to say I've been a bit down on Adobe lately. After recently installing CS3 on Win 7 I lost my internet connection. I eventually discovered that CS3 installs the Apple Bonjour service (I know other Apple stuff does too, but I avoid Apple software on the PC for this very reason), and Bonjour was resetting the default gateway to 0.0.0.0! I killed that service quick smart.

I think Adobe is finally going to do something about the problem.

Summary of long correspondence with Adobe's Web Support. Up until yesterday, web support kept telling me to reset Preferences, etc. Yesterday, they finally acknowledged the bug existed.

I GIVE UP WITH YOUR WEB SUPPORT!!! READ THE FORUM FOR PROBLEMS WITH LR 2.4 AND DO NOT RESPOND TO ME UNTIL YOU HAVE A FIX!!! THERE IS A BUG IN LR 2.4. AS I STATED BEFORE, I HAVE PERFORMED ALL OF THE TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS BEFORE CONTACTING YOU. ALL PREFERENCES, ETC. WERE CLEARED. THE SEPARATELY CREATED ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. LR 2.3 DOES NOT HAVE A PROBLEM AND I HAVE GONE BACK TO USING IT UNTIL YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THE BUG IN LR 2.4 AND
    ISSUE AN UPDATE.

(After telling me to perform the same troubleshooting steps I already told them I had performed, they told me the following)

    Hello John,

...I understand that other Lightroom users are also encountering this
issue. Most Lightroom users are not encountering this issue. This issue
should be resolvable by troubleshooting your system...

Actually, what Adobe said was that they are not going to address this problem until they are ready for the next update.  They basically said "Stop using our current product that we are selling to an uninformed bunch of suckers and use the old version which we originally told you was not as good as this one.  Don't call us, we'll call you when we're good and ready."

Fact is that this issue is not affecting the vast majority of users. If you consider yourself a sucker, well........

I also use Downloader Pro and WANT it to autostart when I insert a CF card so a global "autostart off" fix is not ideal.

I am not a big fan of editing the registry so I guess I'll wait till Adobe fixes this in the next release...oh, wait a minute, they think this is Microsoft's problem.

I have filled a bug report and hope more folks doing the same and posting here will get Adobe moving in the correct direction.

I agree and have submitted a bug report form. I  have a Lacie external drive connected via USB2 which I normally have powered off, whenever I swich on the power it boots LR and begins to read the thousands of images which I haved backed up on that drive. This is even more anowing than the CF card reader.

Hope this gets attended to quickly, we should not have to wait for the quarterly camera updates to be ready.

that is a sad waste of time....

so I wonder what the wasted labor time is ...so far... while Adobe sits in a closet in denial....

I have previously replied to this forum.  Update on Adobe's response to my Case on the Support Portal. They are not yet admitting a problem. They are telling me to try things I have already tried (such as deleting Prefs and let 2.4 recreate the Prefs).  Been there, done that.  As everyone in this forum knows, Autoplay turns on again. They also said to try recreating a new Administrator account because mine could be corrupted. Wrong again. Finally, they said to contact Microsoft for assistance. Talk about "passing the buck". What can we do to get Adobe to fix the problem?

jwoodring - Thanks for the update, this is disheartening!

I went about my giant monthly backup yesterday, and when I activated my external backup array, Lightroom started up over and over for each one of the drives.

This is becoming a major irritant. My friend Grace heard me complaining about it and decided to wait buying Lightroom till they get their act together. Embarrassing to me, the one who has been pushing her to buy it. Please keep us posted - IM

You need to post a "Bug" report with Adobe if you have not already done so.

    July 11, 2009

Running LR 2.4 with Vista 64bit and I am experiencing the same stuck check box with Lightroom openning whenever I plug a card in. At least I know I'm not alone. I've been trying to figure out why that box wasn't staying unchecked.

I too am frustrated with this problem (in addition to not being able to select no compression when importing files as DNG).  The Autoplay problem, when inserting flash drives, card readers, etc., is a bug with Version 2.4 when used with Windows Vista (according to tech support at NAPP).  I guess we have to wait for Adobe to fix the problem.  I hope they HURRY!

I want to try editing the Registry, but don't have time right now.  I am hoping that editing the Lightroom entries for "autoplay" in the Registry might work.  There are many, many entries for autoplay and Lightroom, and finding the correct ones to edit will be time consuming.  However, Lightroom might change them back again when you open LR.

(in addition to not being able to select no compression when importing files as DNG)

Why would you ever not use dng compression? It is a lossless compression that is used. Not using compression in dng files only wastes disk space and gains you nothing.

This is becoming a major pain...  I have thumbdrives, phones, memory cards and even security tokens all causing lightroom to launch a dozens of times a day.  Is there an easy way to go back to 2.3?

Same problem here on vista and win7. It's new with 2.4 and a real pain. Even choosing 'run as administrator' doesn't make it stick, so I don't think it's a premissions problem.

thank you for confirming this w/VISTA and Win7 .......

I really like the LR product..

but I believe this is enough trouble for - what LR is USED FOR...WORKFLOW - that Adobe NEEDS to immediately fix this w/version 2.45

not good for their up-to-now good rep for updates...

    thanks again

A workaround is to change the setting in Windows Control Panel->Autoplay->Picutres before you insert the memory card.

Of course, you would have to do this each time you insert a memory card after LR 2.4 has been launched.

    Lightroom 2 v2.4  / Windows 7 64bit

tommylee1023 stated my situation exactly. Never a problem till 2.4. Not a major really, except it interrupts my workflow and is becoming an irritant. I use Dowloader Pro, and now have to kill LR, and do the dowload manually, then open Lightroom . . . Where do we go from here? Help appreciated - IM
