Question

Lr not seeing changes to images when syncing a folder

Lr Classic 14.0

Win 10 22H2(19045.5011)

After making changes to an image from an external application I went to that folder in Lr and right-clicked to Sync folder.  Lr doesn't recognize anything has changed.  From file explorer it shows the updated image.

From Lr I opened the file in Ps and saved the image.  Lr still doesn't recognize that the image has changed.  The only way I could get the updated image in Lr was to delete it from Lr and then sync the folder.

Am I missing something?

That is not the purpose or function of synchronizing a folder. Hence synchronizing the folder should be completely unnecessary in this scenario.

When you have LrC send a file to PS (using the LrC command Edit In...), a new file is created for PS to work on with the word "edited" in the file name. Once you save the file in PS, the edits should appear in LrC and the changes should appear in the "edited" version of the file. If this is not happening, then you are doing something wrong.

I selected Edit Original when doing Edit In...

The file edited was a .jpg.  I seldom edit a .jpg from Lr, generally a .tif or raw file - which will add Edit to the edited filename.  I looked in preferences that specifies what to do for external edit file naming and it looks like adding the Edit wasn't configured.

That had been set for ages and I don't remember changing it (doesn't mean I didn't - and don't remember) and was wondering if the update to 14.0 somehow didn't get all preferences carried over.

My LrC 14.0 has that setting intact.
