Question

Multiple Seconds to move from one tab to another.

I've been using LRC for a couple of years now, but in the last couple of updates (or maybe even a little longer than that) I noticed that it's become VERY slow. I called tech support the other day and they remote-deksed into my machine and looked it over. After a while they had me sign out and then back in again, finally after updating the video card it seemed to work MUCH better, but then the next day, it slowed back down and now I'm back to where I was. Taking multiple seconds just to go from one tab to another. I use internal drives for my editing (MV2) and a brand new machine with 128gb ram and a 12gb Envidia 3060 video card. This thing should be a beast, but it's slower than my old machine. What is going on?!

Win11
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor 3.70 GHz
128 GB Ram
2TB internal Mv2 drive just for editing
GeForce RTX3060 12 gb video card

Is any of the following occurring in the background in LrC?

  • Face detection
  • Address Lookup
  • SYNC to/from the cloud (a pain since v 13.2)

And for the later, see:

I turned off address lookup, but I don't know how to turn off face detecction and SYNC (I have been wondering about SYNC as an issue since I noticed that it worked better when a certain external drive was not plugged in. I permenantly took the drive off my roster)

That hard drive D. How much free space in percent (yes %) looking for at least 20% free, some say 25% free. Once the free space gets below that, Library performance for one can take a hit. Remember, both the catalog and the Library Previews are eating up that space, and LrC is not a nice behaving app in terms of resource use.

Sometimes the Camera RAW CACHE size limit can degrade performance, but that would be in the Develop module. (speaking of that, what do you have for that in /Preferences/Performance/ ?? just in case, hopefully not the Adobe default of 5 GB)

528gb out of 1.8tb and 20gb for the cache.

That's 528 used out of 1.8

Well, nothing in that Sys Info look like an issue. Only thing odd is the leading underscore in the library path. But that is just an oddity that effects nothing.

That was just so it would always be at the top of the folder structure. So, any ideas how to troubleshoot my issues? Is it because I'm not using the cloud?

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut out as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs and it takes up vast amounts of scroll space making the reply less readable and less likely that others will bother with your post.

"takes up vast amounts of scroll space making the reply less readable and less likely that others will bother with your post."

To add to this: large amounts of text in a post also render the Translate function inoperable...
