Definitely get the drivers up to date.

I don't believe there's a problem with Radeon HD cards, and FWIW, I'm using a XFX AMD Radeon R9 280 with 3Gb. You're going to need a recent generation card with at least 2Gb of memory such as the AMD R9 2xx series or nvidia’s Geforce 700 or 900.

I contacted Adobe last night and they confirmed it is a known issue with AMD cards. The rep also said they are actively working on a fix.

Solved the issue for my graphics card.... you have to switch the 3D openGL trip;e buffering on and now I have the graphics card as passed in Lightroom.  I switched the OpenGL Buffering on in both the 3D application settings under Gaming.      Hope this helps you all xx

I'll take a look at my settings later on. Which card do you have BrenR1958?

can someone who doesn't have a problem please give some feedback as to what kind of performance gains they're seeing? Is the difference significant? zooming into a picture, for example, etc.

just so we know what we're missing.

maybe this needs a separate thread.

Just tried an Import test for you:

1832 full frame NEFs took 2min 29 seconds to import with Smart Previews and all metadata intact.

I always edit in Bridge-hosted ACR so these NEFs already carry "Developed" edits in their metadata but this is Light-speed faster than anything I saw in Lr5.

wow, cool. thanks. can you do the same import with GPU disabled, just for gits and shiggles?

I have the same trouble with my Radeon HD5830, it is not possible to activate the GPU acceleration with the newest release or beta driver.

I'm using the R9 series and it's working for me. Probably it has something to do with the HD series

No im having the same issue with R9 290 in crossfire. Ive tried disabling xfire, ive tried switching GPUs around and changing the primary GPU. Ive tried every Driver i can get hold of. It just wont work. Same OpenGL error as others are getting. It must be an Adobe bug.

You know, it just struck me that some of the comments I heard from Adobe are a bit strange.

Sometimes they seem to be saying: "We definitely know what the problem is and it is in the drivers, so we can't do anything".

And sometimes they are saying: "We are working hard to find a solution, give me more data logs please."

Between version "6.00" and "6.01" (using quotes 'cause I'm using cc) there was an additional improvement to the script that generates the log files. But that doesn't get mentioned.

My best guess is that people at Adobe knew all along that there were going to be problems, and that's why the release date got postponed at least once, although not officially.

The fact that certain things don't yet work with opengl (HDR, panorama etc) in my mind means that this is a beta release as far as the opengl goes.

The fact that this log file button is present in the preferences as well as in the Help, system info (where it belongs) also points to this.

Imagine if Adobe had to come out with the latest and most awaited LR version and say to the public that certain aspects are still in beta?

So, I'm not worried. They are going to figure this out, but is going to take a lot of time.

Everything else works fantastic and is worth the upgrade even without the opengl accel.

GPU acceleration doesn't work on desktop with AMD card (latest driver, OpenGL 4.4 100%), but on lower spec laptop with Nvida card it works fine...

I cant believe that Adobe would miss this in testing - I suspect they already knew about this bug and are already busy working on a fix.

With so many release dates missed, they probably decided to let Lightroom out to the public and then deal with the AMD problems afterwards.

I would expect some comment from them within a few days and a fix within a few weeks.

This may be just one of the know bugs

I checked the Triple buffering setting - I only have one on my Catalyst, it was off

I turned it on but it didnt fix LR

I uninstalled the AMD drivers and re-installed - I checked Triple buffering and it is on by default.

LR still not fixed

Then I see that Adobe are already working on this ..... http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/problem-with-my-graphics-processor?utm_source=notification&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=new_reply&utm_content=reply_button&reply[id]=15614834#reply_15614834
