P: Black Screen in Lightroom Classic Develop Module on Windows 10

I'm new to LR.  When I installed it and imported some images into LR I can see them in the Library module.  When I select an image in the Library module and hit D or go to the Develop module, all I get is a black (not blank) screen.

 

I'm sure I switched some setting somewhere, but I don't know which one.

 

I'm using Windows 10, 64 bit.

 

Lightroom moderator (or anyone else), please help.

Hi all,

 

We're sorry for the black screen issue when going to the Develop Module. If you are seeing this issue with the latest version of Lightroom Classic then, you should check the minimum graphics card requirements for the latest Lightroom Classic app.

If the installed graphics card doesn't meet the minimum system requirements then, turn it off from the Lightroom Classic preferences > Performance tab > Relaunch Lightroom Classic.

I just started having this problem over the past few months. I see this question and many of the responses are from 2019. I'm wondering why computer has just started doing this in 2024? Disabling the graphics prossesor seems to have fixed the issue for me (so far), however I'm wondering why this is still happening and if there is a better fix?
Lightroom Classic up to date 13.2 and graphics prossesor AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB.

We're sorry for the black screen issue when going to the Develop Module. If you are seeing this issue with the latest version of Lightroom Classic then, you should check the minimum graphics card requirements for the latest Lightroom Classic app.

yo aun tengo el mismo problema 😞 alguien encontro la solucion. 

PD: no quiero desactivar mi tarjeta de video por que LR queda muy lento

PS: I don't want to disable my video card because LR is very slow

This happened to me. I updated to the latest Nvidia Studio Driver to this date 1.12.21. Should this still be happening?

We're sorry for the trouble. Which Lightroom version do you have installed? Also, which Graphics card do you installed on the machine?

 

After updating to the latest Graphics drivers, does it resolve the problem for you?

I'm on the latest Nvidia Studio Driver, not the gaming/general driver.

Turn off the graphics processor, force LR to use DirectX, and update your graphics driver directly from the manufacturer, as described in this article: Adobe Lightroom GPU Troubleshooting and FAQ

Thanks so much, John.  Turning off the graphics processor seems to have solved the issue.  And I will go ahead and update my graplhics driver.

I'm wondering if you could please tell me, though, what forcing LR to use DirectX will do.

My (imperfect) understanding of DirectX: Windows provides programs with a number of different ways to access the display. LR tries to choose the fastest method that's compatible with the Windows version and graphic drivers installed. But due to bugs in graphics drivers, LR doesn't always choose a reliable method. DirectX is usually the most reliable but not necessarily the fastest method. Forcing LR to use DirectX may work around bugs in the other methods exposed by the graphics drivers installed.

Tengo un problema y es que cada 10 minutos debo salir de lightroom porque de un momento a otro cuando estoy en el módulo de revelar la pantalla principal queda en negro,  desaparece la visualización de la fotografía que estoy trabajando aunque puedo verla en el navegador al lado, si salgo de ahi y voy al módulo de biblioteca puedo verla en la pantalla principal, la única forma solucionar es salir del programa y volver a entrar, qué puede estar pasando?  qué solución hay?

gracias si pueden darme una mano, tengo windows 10.

Buenas tardes,  mi duda es? porque cuando estoy editando en la parte en la parte edicion, se me pone la pantalla en negro, siendo asi que en el Preview se ve bien la foto. Ayuda!! Gracias

Try disabling GPU acceleration in Lr Preferences / Performance panel.

And, if you are on Windows, I suggest going to your video card manufacturer's website and make sure your video driver is up to date.

I just updated LR and I am having problems viewing/working my files in the Develop module.

When I chose a photo in Library and I go to the Develop Module I only see a Black.

The LR software and commands are visible but the frame with the image is completely black !

What is going on and what is the fix?

I FOUND THE REASON FOR THS ISSUE!

After trying another video adapter from another PC which worked fine ona  WIndows 10 PC while also having the same issue on my main LR WIndows 7 PC I finally found what causes the problem:

when I use my GPU via DirectX everything works fine (also after change of libraries)

when I use OpenGL instead (e.g. by using the config.lua flag Develop.PreferOpenGL) the issue causes the black screen

The only problem is:

When using Windows 7 there is always OpenGL used (as the newest DirectX version don't work with Win7).

When using Windows 10 I can selecht between DirectX and OpenGL.

I would be very pleased if you Adobe guys could try to reproduce this issue with the new information (switch to OpenGL by using the config.lua flag and change folder in Develop mode) to locate the bug.
