P: Generative Remove Feedback (Lr Classic & Lr Eco)

This post applies to Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom Ecosystem products.
Camera Raw feedback can be found here.

Generative Remove makes it easier to remove unwanted objects and distractions with a simple gesture, even on complex backgrounds. For more accurate results, be sure to include the object's shadow in your selection and/or expand its size.

Detect Objects uses AI to find the objects underneath a brushed area. The masked areas will now appear larger than the Early Access version of this feature. You can also circle objects for quicker selection now.

We have also updated the spot selection experience to make it easier to manage variations, switch the fill type, refine the selection area, or re-generate as needed.

Batch updating is also now supported for Generative Remove spots.

Try out the latest updates and share your feedback with us here. Please also include the following details in your post:
  • App version
  • System details
  • Example image(s) if you wish to share

Our team continually monitors this thread to track issues for future improvement. Thanks!

Tool overlay and icon gets on the way when visualizing the different variations of the remove tool. Needs a toggle to hide it so you can better see the final results.

It's already doable.
See screenshot

Use "H" to hide or show the overaly...same KBSC also des it for masking.

Worked well removing graffiti from cliff face in landscape image.

I've attempted to use the feature to remove people from group shots where people are the primary subject.

The process seems to generate weird looking people. Have tried the Remove and Healing tools.

The process doesn't seem to prioritise substituting the selection area for a part of the background, rather it opts for adding somebody that is potentially part of the group. Definitely not my intention - I don't need to add people.

I get a hard line around the selection I removed. It needs its own fethering to get rid of this.

@John299771167m8b: "I get a hard line around the selection I removed."

Remove often has problems matching the tone of the replacement with the background. See my previous reply for three techniques for ameliorating the problem:

Using the second technique, raggedy boundaries for the selection, works well with your screenshot:

I'm trying to identify, but in some images, the generative fill keeps leaving a visible edge where it removed and object.
Its easy to fix with a healing brush on the edge but still.

Remove often has problems matching the tone of uniform backgrounds.  Besides using the healing brush (in shorter brush strokes), some other techniques to ameliorate this problem:

- Make the boundary of the selected area very raggedy with tendrils coming out of the edges. This can work well when the background isn't too uniform (as it is with your example).

- Select a much larger area. In your example select all of the grey background right up against the person.

It is strange - if I remove an object with AI, there still remain traces that I can not delete.

Am I the only one that can no longer use any of the Remove tool? The tools wont take the things I want gone comepletely gone. You can still see what you wanted gone. Is there something that I did that made this happen, how can I fix it?

Hello,

I'm using lightroom classic version 14.1.1 and camera raw 17.1.

I have a trouble when I use the remove tool with AI generative to suppress an object in the sky with opacity set at 100 %. In fact something remains visible. In the file attached I wanted to suppress branches at the bottom, you can see a residue like a light shadow, it's the same with the3 proposals of AI. How to solve this problem ?

best regards.

Guy

Are you applying Remove on top of an AI mask (e.g. Subject, Background, or Sky)?  If so, do Settings > Update AI Settings to recompute the mask.

If that doesn't help, please attach a full-resolution JPEG exported from the unmodified original photo (not a screenshot), so we and Adobe can see the issue in detail. With nearly every one of the several dozen problem photos posted here, we've been able to show how to quickly remove the desired objects.

Help, the remove tool was working properly until latelty, where it leaves a halo where the ereased object used to be. dunno why, if opacity is at 100%. it is generating good solutions, but I still see the deleted object...

I would love to be able to take an ai mask (detect sky feature for example) and then use generative remove for it to replace the sky with another one. Same with detect person, if you could use the ai mask to detect a person, then select face skin and click generative remove.. would be great if it were able to remove all blemishes found on the face skin. I think the ai masks should have some sort of connection with the generative remove tool in certain situations.
