There is no longer any on-line activation for Lr 6. To do the move, you will need to follow these instructions https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-move-lightroom-to-new-computer/ and then to install Lr 6 you will need to use the offline activation method https://community.adobe.com/t5/download-install-discussions/lightroom-6-on-a-new-pc/m-p/14638713#M580921
Adobe does not provide technical support for any issues regarding Lr 6.
To install Lr 6, use the offline activation method. https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/lightroom-6-sign-in-required/m-p/14822708#M376764

Your local PC shop cannot de-activate software on a computer that has gone to "laptop heaven". Is the laptop still running? Or can they access the hard disk that they removed from the laptop?
Next, go to account.adobe.com, sign in and find the serial number there. I can find mine there, but if you didn't buy from Adobe and didn't register it with Adobe, you won't find it there.
You should also have the Lr 6 serial number stored somewhere so you can find it if you need it. Do you?
Advice: I store mine in a simple text file and then store the text file in "the cloud" so even if my computer dies, the next computer can retrieve it.

I bought a new Windows 11 PC and want to move my existing LR .14 to it. I initially purchases LR 3, then upgraded to 6 later and installed the 6.14 patch. For some reason Adobe only recognizes the LR 3 serial number. After installation, the activation step want me to log in (which I did, then goes off inter never never land forever. How can I activeate LR? Since Adobe doesn't recognize the LR 6 serial number, would I be stuck at LR 3? On a related note, Adobe doesn't list any activated devices even though I have it installed on two.
Thanks for au suggestions.

When you upgrade from Lr 3 to Lr 6, the installation of Lr 6 requires you to enter the Lr 3 serial number to prove it is an upgrade. So you will have to enter both serial numbers, based upon the question in the dialog box.

AxelMatt,
Thanks for the tip. Offline activation did the trick. I only had to enter the LR6 serial number and follow the process. As a bonus, Lightroom_6_LS11 to do the install, and it installed LR 6.14 (not LR 3 or LR 6), so I didn't ned to install LR 6 or the 6.14 patch (but you probably knew that).
Thanks for your help and the tips from others!

@Michal Kondrat Do you read the correct answers here? If no, try the offline activation for LR6.x as described as Solutionj 2 in the linked document.
https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/serial-number-validation-launching-cs6.html
But be aware: if you have reached your activation limit and you don't have any chance to deactivate an older installation you're out of luck. Adobe has stopped the support of Lightroom 6 and the resetting of the actiovation counter isn't possible anymore.

To say more we need more informations.
Which operationg system is installed on the new laptop?
What's the exact error message? PLease post the message word-by-word. A screenshot would be also helpful.
Do you have tried the offline activation as I wrote in my former post?

my Mac book pro was stolen and I need to install Lightroom 6 (retailed box version) in my new mac book pro (nov 2024) I already had trouble running it on my LG DVD ROM drive due to low power, when i finally managed to open the disk; the instalation package had a :prohibited: symbol and I cannot install it.
I read that this new mac doesnt support 32 bits apps but only 64, so i was going to give up on my research but to my surprise the lightroom box says it supports 62 bits.
I do not know what the problem is and do not want to purchase a plan because i already have bought the app on a CD and i do not need cloud servises.
any advice?
thank you.

I had a very similar problem, in that I needed to install LR6 on a different Mac after collapse on the original Mac and, despite going through all the correct processes and having the original DVD and documentation, the install was not allowed.
Like you I didn't want the plan or the cloud services, just reinstall my legal copy.
I think my problem was that I had not registered my original purchase with Adobe so they did not recognise the serial number as authentic, and so thought it was a fraudulent attempt. It was very frustrating to say the least.
In the end, I had to buy a 1 year licence, and this time make sure to register it.
If you did not register your original purchase, you may be unable to reinstall on your new Mac?

simon

As stated below by @AxelMatt , you cannot install Lr 6 on newer Mac computers. There is no workaround, it cannot be installed. (Some people claim to have installed a dual boot with an earlier Mac operating system where Lr 6 can be installed, I don't know if those reports are correct, I don't know if it is still doable if it was ever doable, and I do not know how to do this as I am not a Mac user.)

@Viviana_Gonzalez7782 You're right. Lightroom 6 itself supports 64bit. But the installation program supports only 32bit systems. So you're out of luck to install LR6 on new Macs.

Hi everybody
I'm not used to using this kind of forum, so I apologize in advance if I don't use it properly.
Now, my concern :
I had Lightroom 6 installed on a MacBook Pro 2017 under High Sierra 10.13.6 MacOS.
The software worked very well.
I was completely satisfied with my use (amateur photographer).
Unfortunately, this computer broke down !
I have two other MacBook. A fully similar with same configuration, and a newer computer with the latest version of the operating system.
I tested the last version of Lightroom on this one, but was not satisfied by this new version, totally lost in this new version.
I don’t succeed to install LR6 on this computer (not compatible configuration)
So, I decided to install Lightroom 6 on my other 2017 MacBook.
I have a version of the LR6 « installation programme », loaded before the end of the availability on Adobe website.
The installation process runned well until the step where I tried to validate my Serial Number. Not possible to do it !!
Despite that, Lightroom gave me the information that it was well installed.
I used it without problem.
But I tried several times to validate the Serial Number … without success.
And few days ago, no more possible to open Lightroom . The system swap to an Adobe program for validation of the Serial Number . I runned this program many times , without success.
I think the my Serial Number is blocked because I don’t validate it before a time limit after the installation.
I tried it, but not succeed it !!
How and where is it possible to ask to unlock my Serial Number bought on Adobe website ?
I hope that somebody will be able to help me.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The activation servers have been shut down. You might try installing while your computer is not connected to the internet. With luck, it might work.

So for years I have used Lightroom CC 2015. I just prefer the way to it works and where all the tools are located. I've since upgraded to other versions, but it's like my brushes don't transfer over (even though I followed all steps) and when they do, I just can't find them or use them how I enjoyed in my other version. Now it appears on Lightroom CC 2015 that my Develop Module is disabled. I've tried everything from signing out and back in -- looking at my "manage account" which shows this application there. BUT STILL, the same message. Please tell me I can fix this and still continue using this older version. lol I don't know if installing Lr classic will resolve any of this... I'm just hopeful to have what I've always used (located on my desktop) to work!! Thanks in advance!!

@tsyokum If your Lightroom user interface is showing "Lightroom CC 2015" at the top, then you have the subscription version of what is more commonly known as simply Lightroom v6 (Serial Number activated). Perhaps you installed the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App which has transitioned you from Lr v6 to Lr CC 2015.
This would explain the disabled Develop module if you are not paying a subscription regularly. (A cancelled or unpaid subscription disables the Develop & Map modules)
You can attempt to clean you system of all things Adobe and try the workarounds suggested elsewhere to install Lr6.14, but the better step is to subscribe and receive regular upgrades that are now at v14 (as Lightroom-Classic)
