First time poster here... has anyone else had problems with LR crashing their IMac? I am working on a 8 month old IMac and it crashes when I'm using LR heavily. I updated LR a few days ago and the problem seems worse. Just now I was in LR editing and it crashed 5 times within an hour!! You can imagine how frustrating this is. I am using no other program when it does this. Today it repeatedly happened when I was using the spot healing tool. Any help is appreciated!

We've reviewed the email address you use with this forum and find no crash reports in our system.

Did you see a crash dialog?

Do you use a different email address when filling out the crash report?

Was the crash dialog Adobe or Apple?

I have Lightroom Classic 10.3 on a Mac OS 11.5.1 M1 Mac and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application, but it still won't launch. The launch window appears, but it fails and closes almost immediately.

I have been experiencing constant Lightroom crashes on Macbook Air M1 (16GB / 1TB)

I don't see many reports of M1 crashes, so I guess this is just me but LR has been crashing since Day 1 on the Macbook Air. This has ben ongoing for the last couple months and just dones't seem to get better no matter what I have tried. I used an iMac 2015 for years and never had any issues with LR, except for being slow. My main library is large, 200K + images, but I have a number of smaller libraries and they behave about the same. Often the app will just crash and I can reopen it. Occasionally I need to restart before it will relaunch, and once or twice it day it just freezes up the Macbook entirely. At this point I thin I have submitted hundreds of crash reports to Adobe, I set it up as automatic to save having to click the submit buttons. A couple times it has corrupted the LR files and I have had to revert to backups. Lightroom is the only app has crashed on my Macbook since I set it up.

Things I have tried.
Re-installing LR Creative Cloud
Removing adobe Preferences and App support files from the library.
Disabling all extensions
Restarting in safe mode
My images are on an external drive, so I tried creating a new local library for just recent files. It crashed less but eventually crashed as well.

I have had 10 crashes so far today, this is more than usual, so I am hoping someone can shed some light, or suggest something new for troubleshooting this. Below is part of each of the crash reports.

First, try disabling GPU in the preferences (Preformance). Any better?

Try logging into another account (you may need to make one), still crashing?

You might want to try running a free utility like Onyx: still crashing?

Should have mentioned I tried the first two, I have tried a lot of differnt things at this point.

I did try Onyx, ran the maintenance the did the file system check. EVerything went fine, but still crashes.

@Mandy_796  You don't mention what version of LrC you are using. There was recently an update to LrC V10.2 that has solved the issues some Mac users were having. Are you on V10.2?

Yes it's happening to me also. Creating so many issues. If it's not restarting my Mac it's freezing it completely. Exporting images well that crashes it as well. I can't run a business like this. It's taking me over an hour just to export 6 images 🤦🏼‍♀️

What worked for me, Mandy, was to turn off the GPU Acceleration in Preferences. A month or so went by and after a few more Mac OS updates I turned GPU acceleration back on and things are working fine. My initial issue happened after I upgraded to Big Sur and shortly before that I had upgraded to a higher level of LRC. So, in my case I think it was a clash between the different upgrades which time took care of. Hope it helps!

Yesterday, I was having the same problem on my iMac late 2014. My computer froze while using the (LRC) radial tool. I rebooted several times. At first, I thought it was because I had just installed the Topaz software but now I am convinced it is LRC. Anyway, today I thought I'd make another attempt. This time it froze and then shut off completely. I have not been able to boot it up at all now. Totally dead. I can't even get to the GPU if I wanted to. Not a good way to start the new year!

I'm experiencing the same problem though on a P.C.

When in Slideshow after uplaoding music, I can't seem to use the mouse than Lightroom just shut's itself down.

Now I cannot open lightroom folder I was working in, as it says it is already open(there is no programs open on my computer??)

Any suggestions would be great,

Merry Chraistmas.

Hi, I already reported my problems with crashing LrC. Shame on Adobe to dare sell this product...
But wrt your problem: LrC creates a lock file (<catalog name>.lock) in the same location as your library.

It is wise not to remove that, but if LrC crashed I think you can delete that file and start LrC again.
I removed that several times after crashes... But crashes will remain.
On advice I optimized my catalog too and that seems to help a bit, but crashes will remain.

Earlier I also did a remove and re-install, helpt shortly, but crashes will remain....

Let's hope new year wil be a good new year for all LrC users...

Succes, Dick

Yes, I'm getting lots of Lightroom Classic crashing. It freezes, sometimes the cursor disappears, then I get the beach ball and eventually the computer shuts down and on restart says that "something went wrong and it had to restart." It seems to happen whenever I'm working in Develop mode, but has also frozen right after a restart. I uninstalled and reinstalled four times two days ago. Yestderday I upgroaded to Mac OS to Big Sur and today I installed Lightroom Classic 10.1. LRC worked in Library mode and I was able to do several Auto tone adjustments in Develop, but then it froze up. I'm using a 2016 iMac with 32GB Ram. Here is the report (although this is from the app after restart).

Same for me: monitor freeze, cursor disappears, iMac restarts (with the message something went wrong)
