This post applies to Camera Raw, Lightroom Classic & the Lightroom Ecosystem products.

The Lightroom team is sharing an early look for AI-powered Lens Blur–giving you the ability to apply optical blur on any image regardless of how it was taken. Lens Blur is now available to try on all Lightroom surfaces.

How does Lens Blur work?
  • Lens blur applies a depth-based blur effect, similar to what can be achieved with real-world optical lenses, by using AI-generated or device-captured depth data (when available).
  • Lens blur will automatically prioritize focus for the detected subject, but you can also interactively adjust the focus distance. Precise focus range tuning is also available (currently desktop only: Lightroom Desktop, Lightroom Classic, and Camera Raw).
  • You can also further customize the Bokeh shapes, highlight Boost (desktop only), and make depth map refinements (desktop only).

Will my Lens Blur adjustments on one surface be synced to other surfaces? I.e. mobile to web to desktop, and vice versa?
  • Yes, all edits will sync. To revert settings, you can go back to previous versions or history steps, or un-apply Lens Blur settings.

Can I add Lens Blur settings to my presets?
  • No, presets and copy + paste workflows are not currently enabled for Lens Blur during Early Access.

For more information, please check out Lens Blur.

Please give it a try and share feedback in this thread as we continually improve this feature.

Ability to refine subject selection.

Outstanding, although I own mostly fast lenses, I have a few 5.6 - 6.3 telephotos that I stopped using. This turned them into a 2.8.  Lots of control and I especially like the visual depth option.

I have been playing with it and it works really well. I sometimes use it to blur the unfocussed areas slightly to further enhance the focused area to give it more prominence. Very useful tool that I'm using more and more. Good job!

I love all the different lens options we have!!!
I'd like to see Motion Blur function added, where we can pick the subjects we want to add this effect, but I'm pretty sure we'll get there soon ❤️

The blur tool is useful, but it is a crude tool, and it is difficult to make precise applications of the blur brush. I would like to have other tools like the pen tool so I could achieve more control of the blur.

I've been using the lens blur for the last few weeks now and I just want to say its pretty cool. I like the brush features and the ability to add and take away focus and blur in the area's you want. I have noticed some glitchyness, sometimes it will take forever for an image to add the blur and it has made my program crash twice (I use lightroom classic on a Windows based computer). Another feature I think would be good to add is like a linear gradient brush, just to have that fade to add a more natural apreture feel. Even with the feather at 100% it still doesn't do much to naturally fade the blur...if that makes sense.

Other than those two things, when it works it works great and I love the feature! I'm excited to see where this, and other features develope in the future I'm a 7 year lightroom user, and I plan on sticking with this program! Keep up the good work!

I like the new lens blur feature. I've only used a few times on portraits and find that it works well when I need the background to be a little less obvious. Thanks.

I've used sparingly on a few family portraits and been pleased with the results.

Very good but the masks are a bit too sharp, would need a tool to blur the edge of the mschera to make the transition less sharp and more pleasant.

Molto buono ma le maschere sono un po troppo nette, servirebbe uno strumento che permetta di sfocare il botdo della mschera per rendere la transizione meno netta e più piacevole.
