This post applies to Camera Raw, Lightroom Classic & the Lightroom Ecosystem products.

The Lightroom team is sharing an early look for AI-powered Lens Blur–giving you the ability to apply optical blur on any image regardless of how it was taken. Lens Blur is now available to try on all Lightroom surfaces.

How does Lens Blur work?
  • Lens blur applies a depth-based blur effect, similar to what can be achieved with real-world optical lenses, by using AI-generated or device-captured depth data (when available).
  • Lens blur will automatically prioritize focus for the detected subject, but you can also interactively adjust the focus distance. Precise focus range tuning is also available (currently desktop only: Lightroom Desktop, Lightroom Classic, and Camera Raw).
  • You can also further customize the Bokeh shapes, highlight Boost (desktop only), and make depth map refinements (desktop only).

Will my Lens Blur adjustments on one surface be synced to other surfaces? I.e. mobile to web to desktop, and vice versa?
  • Yes, all edits will sync. To revert settings, you can go back to previous versions or history steps, or un-apply Lens Blur settings.

Can I add Lens Blur settings to my presets?
  • No, presets and copy + paste workflows are not currently enabled for Lens Blur during Early Access.

For more information, please check out Lens Blur.

Please give it a try and share feedback in this thread as we continually improve this feature.

It is still a junky pixel mess within a few inches of each person. No matter how I do the feather amount, I have a lot of cleaning up to do around each body. Also I wish the amount would go even lower. It seems weighted to be a little overboard and fake looking. I find myself only using the first 20% of the slider because the other 80% looks too obvious and not like lens blur at all.  The brush to add focus back in sometimes doesn't work but seems to be much better than it was six months ago.

Would love to be able to edit the mask. Often there's just a sliver that needs painted out and I don't see a clear way of doing that.

Here are the brushes you want. Tap the "Refine" arrowhead. Once "painted," you can adjust the "Boost" to get the degree of sharpness or blur to your satisfaction.

finding the subject isnt always the best. say in a group of 3 people all different distances away from you, they are all in focus, but the middle subjects are becomes blury  thinking its the background. a better subject detection would be awesome. iv never thought lightrooms brushes where perfect but this brust to refocus the arm needs a lot of work. maybe intergrate a quick selection tool/ brush such as the one in photoshop would be awesome and a way quicker workflow.

I know it's early access but it would be nice if it didn't crash my computer most times I use it, even with latest Windows updates and NVidia graphics drivers.
